Any KC Metro area Hibiscus lovers want my tropical's?

Olathe, KS(Zone 6a)

Hello friends.
Well winter is coming up quick and I have a bunch of beautiful tropical hibiscus plants with out a place to keep them over winter this year. I've babied these guy's since buying them as 4-6 inch cuttings 2 years ago, they are all around 2+ feet. I bet I have atleast 10+ varieties, maybe closer to 20. I'm sickened over having to let them go so I thought I'd ask around rather than just watching them die w/o making an effort.
Anyhow, I live in Olathe Kansas, if you can get here they are yours.
I'll post a few bloom pics.

That is an awesome flower, jld....hope they find good homes! If I were closer, I'd be knocking on your door with a shovel! =)

Lee's Summit, MO(Zone 6a)

I'm in your area and I just dmailed you.

Jacksonville, FL(Zone 9a)

Lucky you Kay, they sound wonderful and I wish I was closer.

Lee's Summit, MO(Zone 6a)

Well, I haven't heard from him yet, so I may not be the lucky one!

Olathe, KS(Zone 6a)

Here is a collage of a handfull of the hibiscus I have now. There are a few others I left out I think.
Kay was the 1st one to get with me so she gets 1st choice.
AuntB

Oh, Kay you lucky duck! - Thanks, JD. Those are tremendous!

Northern California, United States(Zone 9a)

Ohhh, that first one and the last two are to die for! Well, they all are actually but those really caught my eye.
Too bad I am so far way!
Isn't there a song like that "So far Away"? (Carol King, dating myself here)

Lee's Summit, MO(Zone 6a)

OM GOSH - I am SO EXCITED - Jeff and I are going to make arrangements for me to pick them up - Thank you GOD and Jeff!!!!

NE, KS(Zone 5b)

And I'll take any left-overs. Jeff, I feel bad for you. Lets see So far away, doesn't anybody stay in one place anymore... and don't forget Joni Mitchell -

Lee's Summit, MO(Zone 6a)

AuntB, I won't be a pig about this blessing - it sounds as if there is plenty of Jeff's generosity for us to share. I have assured Jeff that he is welcome to have back whatever he wants in the spring. Just keep in touch with either me or Jeff.

NE, KS(Zone 5b)

Oh, no Kay, sounds like he has a forrest of hibiscus. At first I thought he was exaggerating(sp. need to get to bed) , but now I realize he wasn't! I really only want a few, I don't have a LOT of space... I will even try to overwinter some for him to have back in spring... but no guarantees... I've lost a few in the past. Poor guy, I'm heart-broken for him. -B

LOLOL
You haven't seen all of them yet! I counted 9 pics in that collage and I counted 16-18 plants of these particular hibiscus! LOL I went a lil overboard when ordering these babies but they were new hybrids and only cost 3-5$ each. They showed up in late winter with just roots emerging from rooting cubes. I tend to get carried away with bargains, that maybe a major understatment.
G'night all,
JD

NE, KS(Zone 5b)

Well, a good bargain is hard to resist..... I'm sure you had that dreamy look in your eye, the adrenalin going..... and the purchase is self justifying because of the price/ea.... quantity is just a technicality. ;)

Lee's Summit, MO(Zone 6a)

Jeff, those Passiflora are wonderful. I would be interested in the 2nd one, the 5th one and the 7th one.

I know ALL ABOUT plant gluttony - HD had cactus and CP's on sale today for 25 cents each - I got about 25 cactus and a couple of CP's - LORD, please help us all, but it is just so difficult to leave those lovely plants to the mercy of this horrible life!

AuntieB, where do you live? We might have to become gardening buddies!

Katy, TX(Zone 8b)

I have a pale pink, single hibiscus. The plant is not as tall as the others get. The bloom is pale pink w/a little darker pink around the edges. To me it is unique. Have searched all the pictures I could find and not a one is like mine. Does anyone have an idea what its name is. It came w/the house and nothing was identified other than "hibiscus" which I already knew. Any help would be appreciated - THANKS!

Ann

NE, KS(Zone 5b)

Sounds beautiful, Ann, tropical, right? Kay I live about 35 miles sw of Topeka (40 min. drive to work). Independence is on the east side of the city, right? This could be dangerous! We're not THAT far apart.....Sounds like we like the same stuff....... "plant gluttony" I like that! JD, those ARE lovely passies.. which by the is what kicked in my addictions a few years ago... searching for passiflora info and ran into brugs... hibs... the list goes on..

Tolleson, AZ(Zone 9a)

How funny abou the passiflora being the cause of you addiction. I started because of those too. My neighbor grew them and I thought they were so exotic and beyond me.

NE, KS(Zone 5b)

I saw one blooming at the grocery store and HAD to have it... they do look like very exotic and temperamental.. but they are one tough vine.

Lee's Summit, MO(Zone 6a)

AuntieB, I told my husband I may have found a couple of new gardening pals, and he said, "Oh, great - just what we need - more plants!" Then he asked when I was supposed to meet up with Jeff (he will bring the pickup). There are ways to get our mates to accept our addictions!!! LOL

Calalily got me going on tropicals many years ago, then Rylaff added to it, as did Floridian and a couple of others - Big Red re-ignited my interest in Orchids, so I have lots of folks to thank AND to lay the blame on!!!

NE, KS(Zone 5b)

more plants? You said Gardening Pals, not plants ;) My boyfriend has a couple huge ficus trees he and a coule others lug in and out of his house in the spring/fall and some houseplants... so I'm hoping I can "tweek" his interest further once we are living together. My newest is aroids- amorphophallas to be exact... my uncle gave me his mother tuber and another big one a couple years ago and now I can't get enough... they bloom the stinky bloom in early spring/die back and the the "tree" grows. I just wonder what's next..... I do have one orchid, but I'm not very good with it. It was full of ants this spring- sitting on a glass shelf ABOVE my kitchen sink... they were trying to find moisture... (ants were terrible most of the summer, till we had a couple 3 inch rains) anyway, it angered me so, I just sat it out on the deck in bright shade and forgot about it, watered occasionally. I just brought it back in last weekend... I'll start feeding it and see what happens..

LOLOLOL
Passie's are what got me started too then I found DG in the quest for more.
I'll be seeing you ladies soon it sounds like.
Goodnight all.

NE, KS(Zone 5b)

JD, check your dmail- need some info :) thx-B

Olathe, KS(Zone 6a)

Those passion flowers are:
1. caerulea
2. constance elliot(white caerulea)
3. Blue bouquet or purple haze
4. lavender lady
5. belotti
6. Blue bouquet
7. purple haze
8. Blue bouquet or purple haze
9. caerulea
I can't be totally sure which is which as they change a lot with temps, soil etc...It's amazing how much they can vary.
Hopefully my id tags on my tropical hibiscus are legible. I re tagged them this spring I think so I should be able too...Ya never know around here. I'll try and be back;)
Thanks friends;)

Kay
I thought you were still coming for some too. B is on her way but if I understand her, she won't have room for everything. Plus you were 1st in line as far as contacting me via dmail, I'm still waiting to hear back from you;)
JD

NE, KS(Zone 5b)

Kay, I sent you a dmail earlier this a.m. I also sent you emails hoping we could be there at the same time to meet in person. I did hope you could make it over from E. Kansas City to his home before me, but had to go up this weekend as I live 2 hours from him and work full time. I dug 4 from the ground, as you said you couldn't dig, he has many more in pots, that he offered me, but I declined as they would be easiest for you to move. I've offered any or all of them to you once I have some daylight to clean and read the tags. None were blooming. I have no idea what I dug. If you haven't been by Jeffs GEORGEOUS tropical paradise, you'll see has LOTS more for givaway. Jeff and his lovely wife offered me lots more, but I only had so much room in my car and time to care for at home.

Here's my list:
4 unknown to me tropical hibiscus
1 passionvine- my son dug the one with white/purple petals which I think he's giving away another, if not Kay, you can have that, also.
2 cuttings Comanche brugmansia
3 moonflower seed pods
2 white hardy hibiscus seed pods

The most valuable thing I received from Jeff and Tracie is meeting them and exchanging gardening tips and ideas. Kay, I will see exactly what I have this evening and post here what I dug and if you want any or all, I can possibly deliver them to you next week end. I am not a pig about this blessing, -there is plenty of Jeff's generosity for us to share.-AuntB

The passion flower is P. Belotti. I dmailed you more info on the unlegible ID tags. Hopefully I can find the info/pics of them.
I'll be in touch.

Here is a link for Marily Wentzell.
I can't find Mt. Vernon but I'm still looking.
I have big buds on almost every hibiscus out there right now thanks to this crazy warm weather. I'm hoping to get some good pics this week.
