Hi,
This is a little guy that I started from a cutting, compliments of Janice (frogsrus). He's been in the ground for a couple months now and he's doing pretty good. I peaked in at the stem though, and it looks like someone has been nibbling at it! What would do this? Does this look like a bug or a bunny? I didn't think rabbits would eat this; since they're poisonous I'd assume they taste bad.
The 'bite' has scarred over a bit so it doesn't look like it's hurting the plant, but if there's something I can do for prevention please advise. Until a few minutes ago, I've been growing him surrounded by a little wire fencing which I decided could finally come down. (It was mainly so my gardener would notice it while it was small, and not cut it by accident along with the african daisies)
Thanks a bunch! Christina :)
Who took a bite?
I have no clue what would do that. But I do know brugs can take a lot of stem damage and heal around it and live on. It doesn't look like a fresh munch so maybe the critter has moved on and won't bother it anymore.
It was a rabbit or (rabid) Brug fan....?
did not munch much, just a taste...
haha, that's funny about the rabid fan. No, not a big munch although there's more around the bend. I actually remember reading about something similar with someone, but have no idea which post it was. Thanks for responding you two. Hopefully someone will come along that will know. :)
Keep your eyes open for "weird acting" wildlife.... FLASH- Bunny high on brug stem caught gnawing at Kell's vehicle tires.........That is strange on your Rosabelle, poor thing. Looks like a gust of wind would have broken it off.
wow, I'm shocked that it lived.
Are you sure that wasn't your husband almost caught in the act with an Ax? LOL Looks like someone tried to cut it down.
My husband chewed me out for throwing one away last week. I made sure that it was torn apart before I put it in the plant material recycle bin. He would have tried to save it otherwise. Doesn't understand culling yet.
Oh my, your DH actually loves brugs, Mary? My husband cheers when I toss one and if I want to make his day, I let him tear them apart, limb by limb.
It just goes to show you how tough brugs really are. It did put out a bottom shoot that became the main tree but the damaged one was fine.
