Hidden Valley Hibiscus is having an open house Sept. 30. Sales---yum yum. Just thought you So Ca gardeners would like to know. Their web is www.hiddenvalleyhibiscus.com .
Open House
How oh how did I end up in the middle of nowhere with no neat nurseries or greenhouses anywhere close? Not even within 6 hours! I need to move...
I am so jealous. :)
I hope everyone who is able to go has fun and is able to buy, buy, buy what they want. I just wonder, do they sell a smaller size? $35 per plant would severely limit the number of varieties I could buy.
Plant mom, I didn't think I'd be able to go to this month's open house, so I asked them if there was any other way to get some of the "little babies". Apparently, they have had quite a few requests for this, and will be testing a sale on the small sizes soon. Go to their website linked above by Snowtop and sign up on their email newsletter list. They put out very informative information, as well as having beautiful plants. The first exotic I purchased online was from them, and it is still they most beautiful, large and healthy plant I've ever received, bar none.
I've been sick in bed all week and am supposed to stay put, but I'm really tempted to sneak on over to Fallbrook Saturday ;-) we'll see.
Thanks Amarantha! I signed up for the newsletter.
Hope you feel well enough for the sale (or just get better--being sick is no fun). I think my DH would have to chain me to the bed to keep me away from a plant sale. :)
Get well soon Amarantha.
I emailed them about selling smaller plants so people back EAST here can get some for a reasonable price, I have time to grow them on, don't need huge ones right off the bat. So they emailed back saying that they would try this in the future. I just hope if they do thids they start many kinds and not just a few varieties. :-)
P.S. amarantha fix some chicken soup and lay low till Friday then...RUN like the wind down to Fallbrook. LOL Hope yu feel better quick. would make me feel better to go. :-)
I should think a trip to a place like HVH would make any of us feel better. Just think Amarantha, the warm moist air in a greenhouse is said to be good for a cold. I think it would be good for you to go. Take care, drive carefully and let us know how it was.
Well.....did anyone else besides me here go to this event? Amarantha? Are you feeling any better?
Well....I did go and it was a fine day. Weather was nice and I ended up with about 7 new hibiscus. I have no idea where I am going to put all these beauries, but just had to have them. Ha.
I saw lots of people there, and Charles Black was patiently answering everyones questions.
I got some of their fertillizer too, as I noticed a big improvement in my plants after using it from the last time I went down there.

I'm so glad that you got to go, Mairzee. So now I'm dying to know, what 7 did you purchase? Did he have any Jazz? I also love their fertilizer and use it religiously every two weeks ~ I've had gorgeous results! I was hoping to pick up some of their worm castings. Have any of you had experience using this on any of your plants?
I saw the Dr. on Friday and he has taken me off work and out of circulation until October 9th. So not only is it our busiest month at work right now, but I've got about 50 TB iris' sitting here ready to plant :-( I'm going to try and be a "good girl" and hopefully I'll be able to get out into my garden by mid-week.
I am sorry to hear that you are so ill Amarantha! I hope you get well soon...
I didn't see Jazz, but I wasn't looking specificly for that, so I guess it could have been there.
I have never used HIS worm castings, but I have used worm castings from other places. I really don't see as they make much of a difference in anything. I went looking specifically for Beach Ball and Pretty Woman, but he didn't have any Beach Ball, and said they don't grow Pretty Woman anymore. We also had a dickens of a time finding it this time. Our GPS led us in a weird way that the roads were changed and someone had put up a fence with a big black iron gate that was private property that you couldn't cross right as we got within walking distance , so we ended up having to drive 3 miles back around another way. BROTHER.
Anyway, I ended up getting:
Another Heaven Scent, Time for Magic, The Color Purple, Spice Island, Larger than Life, Miss America, and La Croquette.
So all in all...it was a good day. :-)

Thats what I get for living so far away. When I lived in San Diego all they had for hibiscus were the old garden types. :-(
now they have new nurseries and here I am.
Come on Kyle, you don't do so bad in Iowa - which always amazes me. Who knew all the good plants were being shipped tot he Midwest????? LOL
