Best Potting medium for bulbs?

Arlington, TX

What is your favorite potting mix or medium?

Time to think about this: pottins soil is often designed to hold moisture, and bulbs don't like it too wet. One year I bought a really chunky, barky potting mix and I couldn't keep it wet enough.

Do you add sand as if you were potting succulents?

Any suggestions are most welcome

thank you

When using pots, the problem I have with standard potting soil is that it is light and fluffy and bulbs sometimes tend to heave themselves out of it when they root - especially hyacinths. I like a heavier soil....maybe topsoil mixed with some sand and compost mix? In the ground I use the above combination or buy Scott's 3-in-1 compost mix and combine it half and half with the native soil and some sand.
