Looking For buckeyes

La Salle, MI(Zone 5b)

If anyone has the buckeyes for these, i would love some for trade.

Ohio Buckeye
Yellow Buckeye
Red Buckeye
Horsechestnut

Madison, MS

I know that buckeye grow around here, but I have no idea what I'm looking for - do you have any pic and what the buckeye seeds look like also - I love to scavenger hunt.

La Salle, MI(Zone 5b)

I am not sure, but I believe its the buckeye itself. Just go to the plant files and type in buckeye in the common name and enter, it brings up some pictures.

ROFL Hineni,

I haven't seen buckeyes in years, use to see them all the time when I was a kid...

We jusy picked a lot of them in the edge of the woods at my daughters. They look like the picture of the Ohio buckeye. I am in South Carolina. If you want some let me know.

We have Calif. Buckeye here. The flowers are white & very fragrant, the seeds are huge, bout the size of a tennis ball. In a month or so we can collect some, you want to try the CA. also. I'd love to try a couple Ohio Buckeye. I guess, from another post, there is also a Mexican Buckeye! This could be a fun collection!

Connie, I don't think they have dropped yet here as there has not been any frost & here, that is what causes them to pop open. It will take more than an envelpoe as these seeds are as big as a tennis ball! Bj

Yeah, there are horse chestnuts on my mother's road. When the seeds fall, they are covered with a prickly coat, then inside that is the beautiful chestnut, about the size of a golf ball. Do you want some?

La Salle, MI(Zone 5b)

sure, I'll give em a try :)

Milton, MA(Zone 6a)

As BJ says, no bubble envelope could be strong enough for these babies - any bright ideas? Also, I don't know when exactly they'll be available, there's usually a week or two that is prime chestnut collecting season, but of course I don't know which week it is! I'll call my mom tomorrow and ask.

Are you going to try to grow these?
