It was a dark and stormy night...

Jeffersonville, IN(Zone 6b)

...the lawn was pristine, the mums, princess lilies and impatiens were all happy, including the brugs... until ... BAM!!! Torrential rainfall that has turned my front yard into a great white water rapids area, and the back yard is a river, rising up to the patio!!! The pictures I'm posting are horrible, but I really didn't want to get my new camera wet. The water was right up to my patio, where I had gingerly laid all my potted plants down so the wind wouldn't hurt them. Talk about being completely soaked when I got inside. It's been like this for about 4 hours now.... I have a river coming down the berm behind my house and a lake by the patio. Anyhoo, just venting, and sorry about the pictures because they are bad. All the dark area pictured in my back yard (it shows the patio), is nothing but water.

So sorry to see you are going through this Felicia!
I hope you and your home are OK and you don't have any damage from the flooding. What a Mess... I remember going through this. This past winter we had flooding rains and my basement flooded. It was a mess Cold and stinky.
Keep your chin up I'm thinking about you

I hope by now it has stopped! I hate it when all is looking so good and then the weather comes in and zaps it all. I just heard there are flood warnings in your state, I will be saying a prayer for you Felicia.

Thanks for your concern guys!

Kin, luckily, the water hs not been high enough to get inside my house -- just the garage. Now the roof is a different story! It seems nobody can take care of fixing leaks. I'm sorry you had to deal with flood waters! I'm sure it is not a pleasant thing at all!

Meag848, I hope that you have a safe trip! I know it is bad in a lot of places!

Kell, it has stopped for now, but I just looked at the radar, and we are about to be blasted again. Maybe, since we'll be getting the rain during the daytime, my pictures will actually turn out.

I do worry about the integrity of the ground now, becuase the rock quarry behind my house is blasting a A LOT harder than they used to, so with the ground shaking every day, it has definitely changed the earth since I moved here 2 years ago. That, and the fact that there are covered drainage pipes that end at my yard. So, since I don't have a drainage pipe in my back yard, all the neighbor's water on one side of my house, flows into my back yard, and then goes into a drainage pipe on the other side of the back yard. That pipe flows under ground into about the middle of my front yard and then if it rains very heavy, the water just explodes out of that pipe, into the front yard and then out to the street.

The developers weren't really thinking when they built this street, that's for certain! It's a great street, great house, huge yard, nice quiet area, where nothing can ever be built behind me, or in the field across the street from my house. I wanted to install covered drainage pipes in my back yard, but a neighbor has been fighting me tooth and nail about that because he then would have to do something about his back yard.

The joys of homeownership!

Felicia, I am so sorry you are in the midst of this new front that has moved into our area, but hopefully the rain today will not be so heavy as to cause you more flooding. We are bracing for wicked weather today, heavy rain and probable hail. We spent the better part of yesterday bringing in the plants that need shelter, but there are still several huge brugs. out in the open. I have filled the summer house and potting shed with plants, and readied for winter many many potted plants that went into the greenhouse. Mother Nature has not been kind to so many of us this season.

Here we go. Pictures in the daytime. It just started raining heavily again. This is nothing compared to what I had last night, but it gives you an idea. Last night, the water in the back yard was up to the patio, and the water was just gushing out into the front yard.
Here's a picture of the front yard...
