Clay soil and bulbs?

Wichita, KS(Zone 6a)

New to planting bulbs. I want to start a new bed for the bulbs I've ordered. We have clay soil/moist clay soil, my question: Is it okay/good to mix sand into the new beds. We have leftover sand (3-4 tons) from a sidewalk project. I was wondering if the sand can be add to the clay soil to help with the drainage.

There's a little discussion about this in the Soils and Composting forum right now. You always used to read that adding sand to clay would improve it, but I don't think it's true (i tried it, it didn't really hurt or help) I think you'd be better off putting a lot of organic material in, and maybe SOME sand. Just my 4 cents worth. I get double 'cuz I tried it lol
