tons of spam

I get tons of spam, daily. Some of them I can find a link that says to take me off their list but what is there a way to eliminate it all? How did I get on a swinging singles list? And my dh uses this pc about 1 a yr to check mapquest. My kids are grown/married and off this pc. thank you.
