I believe this to be an Ipomoea purpurea and this particular bloom was previously discussed in the Morning Glory Forum in this thread here

Shirley1md, do you have any thoughts on this? I'd be happy to move the photo if it was accidentally put in the wrong entry.

Joan,

I would change it from Ipomoea nil to Ipomoea purpurea.

Thanks for your help.

Thanks Shirley,

I have changed the species to purpurea for now, but I would like to verify that it's correct for that cultivar. Do you know of any websites where I can find more information on the cultivar 'Hoshi Asago'? I've looked, but I'm evidentally not looking in the right places.

Thanks for your help.

Thanks Joan. Unfortunately, I don't have any more information of this Japanese Morning Glory.
