Need an ID for these Bell Peppers

Jacksonville, FL(Zone 9a)

I took seed from a Bell Pepper we brought home from the grocery back in March and planted it... Now I have peppers. I have several pics to post of them. I hope I can get a more specific name for these guys.

Thanks,
Donna

No way Donna. There are lots of green bell peppers, most of the commercial varieties grade to a sameness in size and shape. You can isolate to an order of dozens by the ripe color. Most will be red but there are yellows and oranges in the mix. Virtually all grocery store peppers will be hybrids which further complicates the scene.

Thought I'd give it a shot!!

One other question....

Are most bell pepper plants annuals or perennials?

I'm no botanist - I've always found the distinction vague. There are many "annuals" that will happily grow on and on if frost doesn't kill them.

I've decided to do an experiment this winter. Yesterday I dug up a puny Pepper (Corno de Torno rosso - I'm an easy mark for anything with an Italian name) and potted it in the Greenhouse. We'll see how it grows. I'm not confident since I grow in the mid-50's for night temperatures. For some reason this plant never got over 8 inches tall. (It is in a corner of my plot where it tends to dry out the fastest and has the least sun - well, that sounds like a good reason)
Dave.
