The equinox is coming!

Lumberton, TX(Zone 8b)

It's almost fall! With apologies to those who don't like cold weather, I'm SO excited! I love autumn, and it's a lot easier to work outside when the yard doesn't feel like an oven. Friday night, I'll be out back dancing!

And an interesting thing to try -- I hope I remember it this time -- is balancing an egg on it's narrower end. I've been told you can do it on either of the equinoxes but no other day of the year. I'll expect full reports from everyone come Monday.

lol....I'll have to try that... :)

Sorry...but I have to laugh a little at your mention of "cold weather". Since I'm from Ohio, down here isn't considered cold more than a night or two a year to me. I lived in Madison, WI for 3 years....and remember well jumping for joy if they forecasted double digit temps......now that's cold! As for the cooling off, I am very happy to see it....and my decreasing AC bill!

Amen, Kim! I've spent far more Christmases in T shirts than in sweaters. Down here, fall means you actually have to exert yourself for the sweat to start running. Summer, all you have to do is step outside. So... cool is relative.

As a friend that was born in the panhandle always says - "In Texas there's Summer, and then there's February!"

I'm with y'all - I love this time of year. Octoberfest season! Can hardly wait till Wurstfest.

Amen to that statement of cool being relative. Today feels fall-ish w/the northern wind. Of course, if you go to a restaurant (especially the ones I like) you can wear your "winter" clothes but it just feels like the places are overcooled.....

lol...I remember living in Boston for about 6 years...and during the summers up there, friends would be very very hot at around 90 degrees...lol..which of course down here...is almost frigid to a native Texan, lol. And 45 degree days to those guys was a pretty warm day...but coooold to me! :)

Wurstfest! Now that is alot of fun!...ooommpapa! Grab your leiderhausen...:D

See -- everybody likes to party come harvest time! It's built into us.

TxT and blue eyes -- I lived in Vermont for one year, in a little house in the middle of a dairy farm. It was like living in the pictures of a calendar it was so beautiful. I saw autumn, winter, and spring, and there IS a difference! What a concept. But Bubba's on the money -- here, it's summer or February! I opened a window last night because for the first time the air outside was cooler than the air inside. The only bad thing about a north wind where I am, is that Evadale is north of us. Evadale has a paper mill. Eeeewwwwwwww.

Ah, well. Still happy for anything I can get.

ah yes..... the balmy smell of a paper mill! *giggle I remember that.... Outside Silsbee there is one.

Lumberton, TX(Zone 8b)

Yes, that's the Evadale one! Oh, it's nasty! I can't imagine getting used to that smell.

Well you could be in Lubbock when a wind blows from the south east - feedlot/stockyard on that side of town.

brigidlily....I grew up on a dairy farm too! And I loved it....still miss the cows, although I don't miss going out to milk at 5am in 0F temps....lol. In our hometown, when the wind blew during recess at school, you could smell the roasting soybeans from the feed mill close by. I loved that smell....

Isn't it funny that smells bring back so much more than anything else? Like you can stick your nose in a bag of mixed candies and smell Halloween?

San Antonio, TX(Zone 8b)

lol..for some reason, everytime I smell plastic around new toys ...it takes me back to my childhood in the early 70's, opening Xmas presents.. :):)

*sigh* I miss the smell of pine woods, leaves and wet pine needles in the Boston area. Daaang...the air up there was always so fresh and clean where we lived...just pure perfume.... :)

The equinox occurs at 11:03 tonight for us in Texas. Maybe if we all do a little dance tonight, it'll bring cooler weather to us sooner! I've got my dancing shoes ready (well, actually I think we're supposed to be barefoot, but that was probably before fire ants).

I BALANCED THE EGG! WILL POST ON A NEW THREAD!!!
