Is any one growing glycyrrhiza yuannansis? I am looking for seed, either sase or will supply my list for possible exchange. Many thanks, Laurie
wanted: glycyrrhiza yuannansis
hi Laurie
you sure are looking for an obscure plant :-)
according to the Wikipedia Glycyrrhiza has 18 specie & yuannansis is the last one listed but no information is to be found
see list bottom right last entry http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Glycyrrhiza
maybe the Chinese licorice (Glycyrrhiza uralensis) which also has interesting pods, might do what you are looking for ?

Many thanks Dick, it has proved elusive so far. I got close finding a nursery that had it, once, but no more. Its got to be out there somewhere. I did look up the uralensis - and I must admit your photo-find was much more appealing than the others I found. I think you are right, it might be worth giving it a go in the nursery bed to see what it looks like/grows like. But, you know what it is like - once you start looking its hard to give it up.
thanks for your interest. Laurie
Laurie,
I inadvertently stumbled upon many species of the Glycyrrhiza while looking through the site
www.seedman.com b/c of a 1/2-off sale they're having. I haven't found the species you were looking for,
but at least 2 or 3 others in that genus. I would search for "Glycyrrhiza" on the site's search page.
Hope this is helpful :)

Gina your link doesn't work, its got a comma just b4 the / at the end thats stopping it from going thru...
Connie
Thanks Gina, and connie - interesting site - but I am still hanging in there for the yuannansis. Now that this thread is generating some interest, I think someone is going to turn up with seed. At least, my fingers are crossed - well except when I am gardening.
You're welcome Laurie, and good luck finding that species!
Thanks Connie- lol, that comma happens too often! It works now in case anyone else comes by.
Your welcome Gina ;-)
Hurrah! I may have just located some seed! The Hardy Plant Society has just published their annual seed trade list, and glycyrrhiza yuannansis has come up on it! I have sent off my request. Gardening with fingers crossed.
Congrats! I'll cross mine too. ;)
Thank you Gina Rose, I'm taking all the help I can get on this.
Guess what - after looking for almost three years I have managed to get a small packmet of glycyrrhiza yuannansis seeds! I am absolutely thrilled - I know there is 'many a slip between cup and lip' (as my mother-in-law so often reminds), but the seeds are in my hand and now all I have to do is sow (cross fingers) and grow! I am thrilled!
Many thanks for your interest - much appreciated.
