I went out this morning and discovered that my Zantedeschia 'White Giant' has responded to the cooler weather and a nice meal of Mir-Gro with a scape.
This has come about in just a couple days. I was noting the way the "groove" in the old leaf had sealed itself shut instead of remaining open as, say, and EE does. I also noticed that between this leaf and the rest of the growth, there is a "sheath".
White Giant starting to bloom.
Huge! I want one!
Beautiful. Keep us updated.
ROX
I'm imagining!
Nice shape too, I like the little grooves on the spathe.
The apex of the spathe is also textured a bit more than is apparent in the pic. "Finely pebbled" might be a way to describe it. Since this is the only flower I have seen on this one, I don't know if that is typical to all of them, or is just the way this one is. Haven't seen that on any other calla bloosom.
Nicely grown and beautifully shot raydio!
GIANT it is for sure!
I don't know if it's the days getting shorter or lower temps that trigger these to bloom.
My Zantedeschia always start about now and go thru the Winter flowering.

My callas bloomed earlier in the summer.
Very cool plant
So is it a kind of calla lilly.
I guess you will be bringing this one inside too! It does have the strength and stature I see in Pink Mist, but it possibly will get bigger than that.
I wonder if it's this large aethiopica that gives Pink Mist it's size, minus the spots.
A very worthy Zant.!
wallaby~
Oh yes, this one's coming in. I expect it will bloom more during the winter if I can give it enough light. I'll be potting it up to a really big container in the spring to see just how tall it will get. I *might* put it in the ground just for the season next year, but I'm still thinking that over. Knowing how tall it can get when grown in soil makes me want to try it.
Spotted foliage isn't characteristic on aethiopica so that might indicate that 'White Giant' is itself a hybrid with one of the more typically spotted species or hybrids. Aethiopica tend to be big anyway, given the right conditions, so I just couldn't say. Don't know where 'Pink Mist' came from.......time to go digging, I think.........
Robert.
