Source: Tropical Hibiscus (Canada)

Montreal, Canada

Hi,

I am looking for a mail order company/ies of tropical hibiscus in Canada. I would appreciate having your feedback on this request.

Welcome to Dave's and the Canadian gardening forum Flower_Mtl!

Unfortunately Plant Scout doesn't sort results by country: http://davesgarden.com/ps/search.php?search_text=hibiscus&submit=Search

Limiting the search to Hibiscus rosa-sinensis is even more discouraging.

Of the ones listed Montreal's Flora Exotica is the only Canadian Business that I recognize (big help I am eh ;). Hopefully someone else will come along with more promising news (however I know from past internet searches they are pretty rare here). There is also an on-line hydroponics store in Montreal that sells a couple different varieties but I'm drawing a blank on it's name right now.

Hi Flower Mtl.

Welcome to our chatty group. Tell us about your garden and gardening activities. What do you like besides hibiscus. You'll find there are quite a few here from PQ. Do you visit the botanical gardens often?

Lilypon, Inanda,

Thank you for your response. I have seen hibiscus at Home Depot (so-called fantasy series) from a company in BC (Flores.com?). I tried an internet search for the company, but came up empty.

In terms of interest, I go in cycles. This year I started playing with tropical plants in the garden: canna lilies, calla lilies, dahlias. I have recently started playing with tropical seeds. I ordered some plumeria seeds from Hawaii. I am very happy with the results. I also started the bird of paradise plant from seed. I have three seedlings growing at the moment. Also, I ordered some fresh Cape Jasmine seeds from Australia (e-bay). I cannot wait to start those. Last year I bought a baby jasmine plant that I have since divided and trained as standards. Next year, I have a lot to look forward to...

hello flower mtl
Last year i found out a place for tropical hibiscus , amaryllis and orchids , it is in Dunham not far from Montreal . It is really the place to get tropicals hibiscus , you have to go and see , they have a site www.orchidee.ca or punch les orchidées de dunham on google . Go when the hardy hibiscus are in flowers it is very impressive , the guy hibridizes the hardy ones to make them bigger and hardier , safe in zone 4 with no problem . the tropical ones when we visited the place in July were everywhere , hundreds and hundreds of them inside and out of the greenhouses .it is the place for hibiscus . Wich other tropical plants do you like ? Nice to know someone living near me is on DG . Hope to talk to you soon

You are welcome . It is really a place to go and see and buy some really beautiful hibiscus . There is also in Dunham a place that grows hostas and daylillies , most of them are quite rare , it is one of our friends that brough us there to show us the place . the place is set up kind of in the woods with walking trail with on every side of it all different kind of hostas and daylillies , they are all identified , they have hundreds of them , very hard to chose , so many are beautiful . we were there in July so all the daylillies were out in flower . I could get the address for you if you want , i do not think they have a site nor they do mail order delivery , it is a nursery worth seeing if you plant on going to Dunham let me know and i will get the address for you .
