More Pictures At Floating Islands International

SC, MT(Zone 5a)

This picture is of one of the ponds fed by a 60 mile long irrigation ditch which ends up dropping in the Yellowstone River after going through Bruce's place.

These are all prototype islands in various stages of development and plant growth. These island were beaten down by a horrendous hail storm not too many weeks ago...and they are coming back beautifully.

Bruce's goal is to help give nature a chance to clean her waters with floating, planted islands. The roots will be in the water using up the nutrients before they get out of hand. They will reduce the growth of aglae, give fish food, clean the water, and do many more things to improve the water ecologically.

Well people.....my post didn't post...although it says it has......I will try again later....I don't know if it's something I'm doing or a glitch in Dave's system..

Terry said Dave was up in Dallas working with the servers ....the problem I had yesterday...so I am trying once more to post some pictures of the floating islands.

I am sorry...I can't seem to get images to load again....I will continue trying as I think you will find them interesting.

Trying once more...This little island shows some little yellow flowers that were not planted on it...They came to the island on their own this year. If you know what they are, please tell me....Bruce wasn't sure what they were either.

The roots of what ever is planted on the islands are in the water...if you go to the website..you will see how they grow.

This island has a small tree planted on it....looks like a Blue Spruce to me. Notice that the island is being populated by plants around the edges...Eventually these will help the island look like its mother nature's....not man made.

The big island in the back with the wood on it...looks like it was planted...not too long ago...I don't know the particulars on that island but could find out if some one is curious.

Here's another with a small tree planted on it..

You can see where this island is showing more growth and less of the material the island is made of.

Another .....couple of islands.....Bruce is putting all sorts of prototypes out in this pond to see what happens with them....lots of observing going on.

If I remember correctly...Bruce mentioned to the club that the log was another prototype.....and then paused saying, "Mother Nature's prototype."....so I think that the log is just that but planted in a couple of areas where there were 'holes' to stick some plants in.

BingsBell,Do you know what the islands are made of?Do you know how he built the islands,They are exactly what I'm looking for! Any info on the how to's would be great or if you can point me in the right direction. Don

BingsBell; Looks like what we have in some of the drainage ditches here. although there is a smaller version of it with much narrower leaves. that I think is a little more suited to a small pond. I think it is Japanese arrowhead / Alismataceae Sagittiaria
Can be invasive in a boggy area or drainage ditch or canal
I have some of both around my pond
