Any feedback on Forestfarm?

Ridgefield, WA

Hello everyone! In the "Garden Watchdog" area, Forestfarm has a fairly good rating. However, i've never purchased plants from the mail before, and i'm a bit nervous about placing an order (it would be quite a large one). Since i feel i've come to know and respect many of you here, i thought i'd ask if anyone has any Forestfarm feedback.

Cheers!

You should also ask in the Trees & Shrubs forum. Although I've never ordered from Forestfarm, they are one of the few that you can order with confidence as they have been established for quite some time. I've heard nothing but good things about them, the quality and customer service, from people who have ordered from them.

estreya, I've ordered from them for 3 years now and I've always gotten a nice plant in whatever size I've ordered, they are very good at packing everything almost too good, it takes quite a bit of cutting all the tape and staples away from the plants, but I've never had a damaged plant, I especially like the Japanese Maples. because they have a huge selection that I can't get locally or at a low price. it's really worth getting their catalog and looking through it. I just received their fall catalog. happy hunting. hostajim1

estreya, Last spring I ordered 7 plants ..... 5 different color varieties of hardy Hibiscus and 2 Forsythia plants in pink and white from ForestFarm.com in southern Oregon. They are nice folks and 6 of 7 are thriving. One of the hibiuscus (plum crazy) got scorched in the shipment and the shock wilted it too much to survive.

estreya, The Forestfarm.com website has a perfectly functional on-line catalog with photos and prices and everything. Even if they don't list an item ..... they often have it coming soon. I prefer to talk to them on the telephone but they also answered all my emails promptly. These guys get A+ rating from me .... truly a great on-line tree/plant nursery. Kelly

Thanks for the feedback! I'm going to try the local nurseries first, just cause it's hard to shake the anxiety of ordering plant material from the mail. But if they don't stock what i want, i'll surely place an order! :)

estreya, Your location in Ridgefield would make for ease of gardening. Whatever plants you get from Forest Farm would transport easily and quickly. They're situated just down the road from you about 6 hours south off I-5. I had a strong desire to get the Hibiscus here. After spending 4 years in Hawaii as a college student I wanted something here at home to remind me of Hawaii and so I looked for a nursery with plenty of hardy Hibiscus that can withstand the difficult zone variances here in winter and summer. Forest Farm had the largest variety of colors of Hibiscus plus the hardy varieties from the mid-west. I got 5 different color varieties of Hibiscus plus the white and pink Forsythias. These were so uncommon; I just had to have them. My white Forsythia has already bloomed and the pink will bloom this week.

Thank you, Photographer! I probably will end up ordering from them this Spring, though to be perfectly honest, i haven't really gotten any momentum going for this year's landscaping efforts. At this point, i'm just sort of enjoying the fruits of last year's labor.

I know. I do things at a slug's pace!

Forest Farm is an excellent mail order nursery. I have ordered from them as well as several others and had very good experiences. The one thing to be aware of with Mail Order is plants will be a bit smaller. If you can find them locally I think you will get a better value, but if it's not available there's no reason to hesitate ordering from them.

Good luck,
JB

When I first signed up at Dave's Garden I checked the Nursery rating site, Forest Farm's was in the top five.
