My daughter and her husband have a new house and didn't like the plants in front. We went to Houston Garden Center and despite what I told them they bought some sort of tiny leafed holly - green and shiny and according to the tag grows 2' high and 3' wide. ok So they wanted something that was even lower to go in front of that in the bed. SIL found some really pretty plants - low growing, yellow. They bought several of those and then happened to be at another pricier nursery and saw that the plant was called "Duranta". I have looked it up and they may have made a whopping mistake. The information I have seen shows that those things get to be 10-12' tall! I have no way of taking a picture to show y'all and when I look it up there are no pictures of the plants. Somebody PLEASE send a picture of a yellow duranta so I can compare that w/the actual thing. Since the plants are young they can always move them to the back yard where they need some shade and height. Thanks in advance.

can't find a picture of a plant
Duranta erecta does get huge and comes in either yellow blooms or purple. It's 'street name' is Sky Flower. 'Sweet Memory' is the most commonly sold purple variety. Funny you should post today on this plant--I was just throwing alot of old info out of a binder and merely had to reach over to the trash to pull it out to reply. I used to grow the "Sweet Memory' years ago but gave it away two years ago because of size constraints.
Edited to add its pest free and easy to root if you have the room for it.

Ann, are you saying the foliage is yellow or the flowers?
There is a whole forum on Datura's that is loaded with pictures. I can't see buying it for year round landscaping since it is often acts as an annual.
http://davesgarden.com/forums/f/datura/all/0 Page through and you will see several different post with Yellow Dat pictures.
Edited to say...OOPs, missed that totally! NOT Datura, Duranta!!!

There are some Duranta's that do get large in fact I have seen them shaped into a tree. Just beautiful. Then there are others that only get 2 to 4 feet tall. Go to Daves search and put in Duranta and you will get an idea of what some of them look like. From there you can get the botanical name and do a google seach for more detail.

The foliage is yellow. Don't know about any flowers. Thanks to all of you for the info. Y'all are awesome!
