I think this may be the 'sowbug' I found in my greenhouse. It was easily 2 x the size of our usual sow bug (wood bug) that we have everywhere here. It was a bit greenish. The worst news I brought inthe house to check it out and by the time I had washed my hands it was GONE. So now its in my house. Great. I hope the cat ate it... ?

ps... I live on the Queen Charlotte Islands. Pacific NW of Canada.

I think that they are mostly detritus eaters, making only occasional attacks on plants. They are all over here, under every rock and bark chip, harmless if not useful, until those days (or nights) when they get a wild hair to chew on things like Hosta, Iris roots, and seedlings.

This species has a hard shell, curling into a tight ball when threatened, unlike some of its relatives.

Yes ! That is the critter.
So now it lives in my kitchen somewhere.
I have gardened here for 38 years and never noticed one before. Interesting.

Thanks. el
