What lovely plants you've got growing Steve. :) BTW which camera did you purchase? (it's captured the beauty of your plants very nicely).

Great pictures! How long did it take you to learn to use your camera? I just bought a Kodak Easy-share, and my first lot of closeups are all over-exposed. Don't know what I did wrong, as there is supposed to be auto light balance, or something, and I didn't use flash. I guess it's not going to be the easy point-and-click camera that I thought it would be! I may even have to read the manual...

The main flowers in my garden now are the Colchicums. This is C. agrippinum.

The rain from Hurricane Florence has really stimulated the fall-flowering bulbs. Colchicums have bloomed overnight. This is Lilac Wonder

Todd and Steve
I like your choice of color's for your plants!! Pinks are always my choice for some reason.

Hey, Steve, you might want to post that Celosia pic on the Texture thread http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/644397/ ... it looks like a fuzzy caterpillar!

Grand Forks, BC(Zone 5b)

Beautiful photos Todd, as usual. Love that Lilac Wonder Colchicum. Just gorgeous!

Steve, your garden is lovely. Thanks for sharing it with us.

Steve and Todd, enjoyed the pictures. June - don't know if it will work with your camera, but if your exposure isn't right, sometimes you can adjust that by pointing the camera at something else and partially depressing the shutter. Then aim at what you want to take a picture of and press it the rest of the way. Doesn't always work, but if you're using a digital, you're not paying for film with each shot; so experiment.

Rather a gray day here, but it may be the best of the week. Perhaps I can take a garden walk and get some pics here too.

Ann, thanks for the photo tip. I have read the manual (if all else fails...) and discovered an exposure compensation setting, played with the camera a bit, and I think I have it figured out, although your suggestion is a lot easier than paging through the menu using the fiddly little select buttons! Are control buttons getting smaller, or am I getting larger? (Probably a bit of both)

Hi diggin - I have some Dahlia's that I've started from seed but they are, I think smaller. Are your seeds from large Dahlias - the ones with tubers or are they a different variety for which seeds are available?

Ann

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

Love China Asters - always put in a few. Mine just finished and pulled up this week.

And for curiousities sake - look at what is blooming in my yard!

Ahhh, that's a beauty Todd.

Don

Evelyn is lovely Todd. I'm just starting to get into roses. I've always shied away from them before because I thought they required too much care, but some of them are so beautiful I'm just going to have to try them anyway. Is Evelyn disease resistant?

--Ginny

St. John's, NL(Zone 5b)

I have only 2 roses.....Angel Wing (grown from seed, mini and tough as nails) and Evelyn. She is also disease free. Angel Wings is also flowering profusely for a second time (actually it blooms just about continuously)

comebychance, NL(Zone 5b)

nice roses Todd the angle wings are realy nice.
Oh by the way i was at the B.Gardens this year i didnt want to leave loved it
will do it more often now keep up the wonderful work.

Blyth, ON(Zone 5b)

Thanks Todd. Your Angel Wings is very nice too - delicate and airy. It would make a nice front of the border companion for my Ballerina. The colours are very similar, but the difference in size and structure would make a pleasing picture I think. Maybe with a splash of something blue in a mid-size around them.

--Ginny

St. John's, NL(Zone 5b)

Angel Wings is also highly fragrant!

Blyth, ON(Zone 5b)

Bonus :-) Ballerina has only a faint musk fragrance. Here's a picture of her.

Edited to say: Please excuse the earwig damage to the leaves (even if I won't!).
