I just sent Ann an e-mail thanking her for exactly the same thing! Awesome looking cuttings, now just crossing fingers hoping they root!

Do you guys have a secret for rooting cuttings this time of year? I find them really hard to root going into fall, nearly impossible in winter. I just passed up a great opportunity for a trade (**sigh**) because I have a very hard time rooting this time of year, even with a rooting mat. Maybe I'm just too far north... My existing Hoyas seem to grow (albeit slowly...) and put on flowers (some, that is...) into fall and winter. But to try to root a new one - it's a gamble at best, and not a favorable one! If you guys have a secret, PLEASE share it with us northern folk!!

Denise in Omaha... wondering what it takes to get the rooting fairy to stop by in fall/winter!

Denise...go to the thread on propagating by laying the vine horizontally...Keyring has a good illustration! If you can provide some lights (in another thread on this page) and warmth...you should have no trouble!!!

Seguin, TX(Zone 8b)

Denise....when I lived in Ohio I had this problem too. What has worked best for me is a 10-gallon aquarium covered with saran wrap under my grow lights. As long as it didn't get direct light, I think this would work without the lights as well. It keeps in the humidity and warmth, and the saran wrap isn't so tight that air can't be exchanged. I put the cuttings in pots of damp perlite inside the aquarium. This also worked well for my begonias over the winter, and my episcias are loving it now. Also good for when you have to be out of town for awhile...when I visit home over Christmas I have to get creative on how to lose as few plants as possible!

I got a packege from Annie C today too.. (The "C" is for Claus, Ms. Claus?)
I'm sure I haven't been THIS good this year, but I must have done something right! What a bunch of lovely, well grown cuttings. They have root bumps galore and such nice thick leaves, I'm sure they will root up in no time. I got two lacunosa clones that are just beyond words, so cute they are.
Thank you, Ms. Claus!

Our Ann W. is a peach!!! While doing all of this AND the book, AND FRATERNA she really should be in bed with the lights OUT taking her meds and not running around. I admire the heck out of this woman who has so much to share and so much to give....she puts herself last on the TO DO List. Love you, Hoochie!!!!!

Here is a picture of a fascinating clone of lacunosa with heart-shaped leaves Ms. Claus sent me:

Hey, Carol is right, you better get yourself into bed. But it is kind of nice to read you are feeling good enough to even get out of bed.. Take care of yourself, and don't over do it..

Wow I could hardly believe my eyes. I got this lovely package from Ann too. I only had the lancunosa and it has a different leaf than the one I have. They are beautiful cuttings. I was able to make a full pot from
Oh Oh... one of the cuttings has a seed pod. I am going to have great fun planting these too. Can you tell how exciting it was to open that package:)

Thankyou Ann

Mark and Bea...don't you just LOVE that heart shaped H. lacunosa leaf? I sure do!

Victoria BC, Canada(Zone 9a)

Yes Carol

It is very pretty. Just when you think to yourself "I have one of those" you find out that there is another one with different leaf shape. How will it ever end if there are so many of one type. Not that one ever wants to get to the end of adding to their collection:))
Love the pretty leaves does it have the same flower?

Bea

Keaau, HI(Zone 11)

yes...the same flower...

THANK YOU SO MUCH ANN!!!!!

I got my parcel of cuttings today, and all of the hoyas are ones that I've been longing for!! All healthy and happy, some with peduncles, one with flowers about to open. Its a wonderful day, and I get to play plants even more now!!

And the cats get a new toy too apparently....
