Thank You Hibiscuses'

NE, KS(Zone 5b)

Well, drat, it's getting into the low 50's at night...... I'll be trimming back and bringing em' in, soon.... I love em'. Just feed and water, spray for bugs occasionally... they just keep giving and giving and giving...

Sun Showers - It lived in my dining room window last winter, and probably this winter, too...not a fast grower for me. The blooms make up for it.

Pink Versi, from Yoders "Breeze" collection - smaller plant but non-stop bloomer.. nice deep pink color - I can't fit them ALL in the dining room.

Hardy "swamp" Hibiscus started from seed ... first bud! (pretty exciting since I "brought it into the world") lol It was so hot the blooms didn't last a day. :(

I'm just pouting, and coming out of denial.... It will soon be freezing- I must at least THINK about the task at hand... A purty yellow one... (sniff sniff)

Wow those are all georgeous. I guess even though I complain about the desert I should be thankful that I still have at least 8 weeks before the first frost.

In 5b, I could sometimes leave things out till mid October.... or later BUT... I've been out there in the dark, limbs and leaves flying, with neighbor kids and friends hauling, digging and snipping to beat the frost.... I surely should move south. I think I'm in zone denial.... by looking at my plants... hibbies, passies, brugs, colocasias, ferns - ooh, I do have hardy things that stay out, but my want (and need:) for tropicals just keeps getting bigger.. If I could only work part time so I can spend more time with them! Most get trimmed and stored in a semi lighted corner in my basement..... I water sparingly and hope for the best come spring.

Yeah I have the tropical problem too. If at a nursery I am always drawn to the tropical stuff.
Definite zone denial.

Sun Showers is gorgeous!

I don't even want to think about frost. I buy so many plants every year and always wonder where I'm going to put everything in the fall when I have to bring the "vacationing" plants indoors. Well, same dilemma this year and I ordered plants from three different places in the last week that will be delivered this week. Plus, ordered hoyas from David Liddle that will be delivered at the end of the month. I joke with my husband that our house will just blow up some day because I'll have so many plants crammed into it. :) Why he puts up with it I don't know...

You poor 5Ber. I have at least till Nov. 1 to have flowers. But then the rain starts and who knows what will live.

I really really really love these hibiscus flowers.

NE, KS(Zone 5b)

They are blooming almost from the time I put them out in spring till I start whacking on them in the fall and are a lot less work than say... brugmansia. BUT, I like brugs, also... I hope to tidy up their basement spot this weekend... and decide if I'm chopping.... maybe I'll wait a couple one more weeks :(

Have you heard when we are suppose to get our first frost? Of course it could come sooner for you being in the NE corner. About where are you located?

I am hoping to leave mine out clear through Oct. Maybe not moving in until the 1st of Nov.

I need to go find out when they expect our first frost.

BTW I forgot to mention how pretty your flowers are, and so healthy looking. All of mine is blooming like crazy right now with all this cooler weather, they didn't like the triple digits, but of course who would.

I have my double yellow that has at lease 5 blooms on it right now, and they are staying on forever it seems like.

I looked up and it said 10/10 first frost. But that does seem a little early.

I tried to find something about that yesterday, got busy with other stuff and didn't get back to it. I wish I knew. I HATE being out in the dark trying to save stuff. I'm up by Topeka,..... I'm gearing up for it, (the bringing in). I'm going to try to leave it all out till Oct 14th, but I'll also be watching for frost warnings... It's quite a production, prepping pots with bug stuff, slacking off and stopping feeding and watering in some instances, cutting back, hauling around the house to the basement.... whew, I'm tired just thinking about it! Let me know where to get the info, if you get to it. Thx

Thanks 2pug, Where did you find the frost info? Waaaaaaaaaaaaaa, I don't want it to be over!

I know what you mean I'm not ready to start getting the GH filled. All my hibiscus are going to have to be trimmed back. Especially my trees and bushes. I have about 30 I need to move into the GH. So far there are only 3 brugs that are out that is going into the GH. 2 will have to be dug up. But I do have some cutting that I am starting. Of course they don't take up much room, and they can always go into the house. I am going to start a bunch of Tropical Hibiscus cuttings in the house. Probably will leave them in the house until after the first of the year.

Oh, lucky you, you have a gh.. Thanks for the link....... YIKES!!! NO! not October 1st!!!!! I had hoped I could make in INTO October......

AuntB,
Could you send me some of your cutting from your hibiscus. I would love some they are beautiful. Just send me about 5 inches of each maybe three or four of each. I will send you the postage you put on them or trade something that I have. Fran.
