Ok, all summer this brug has looked sickly..Ive treated it like the others but havent sprayed it for any bugs...Ive looked but I dont see anything..the main thing that is going on is that there is a brown scarring..cant explain what its doing but it makes the leaf break right off in that area...here is the pic of that area...Judy

Hopefully someone out here knows this symptom, I don't. But I can share what my rule of thumb is and hope it helps you.

There always seem to be one problem or another with brugs! I treat all weird leaf patterns for broadmites which you can't see and can really distort leaves. If no improvement, I dump it. If I hesitate, I think how sad I would be to have to dump all my brugs.

Does it get that brown on other parts? If not it may just be bug damage. Or it could be the start of a bad disease. Do your nodes look OK? No black around them? What kind of brug is this? Some have more of a tendency towards disease.

But the leaf mottling I see in your picture could be a virus and that coupled with your report that it is sick for so long, I say dump it soil, pot and all.

Unless it was a new fantastic seedling that is not replaceable, it is not worth it to keep a sick brug around. And even if it were a special one, I would still dump it but just cry as I did. LOL.

They are so plentiful why risk your whole lot of them?

Kell, I think I will dump it and its not an unusual variety......the dang squirrels ripped the tag off the stalk so Im not sure which one it is...its not a favorite but I do feel attached to all of them...most of the leaves will get that brown on the leaf stem and will break and just stay there limp....I think I will put it on the other side of the house and forget about it...it wont make me feel so bad then.....Judy

Ahhhhhhhhhhhh poor you. I get attached too. But bag it in a heavy plastic bag and toss out of your life. If it is virused all it takes is a bug to take a bite then fly across the yard and take a bite of another of your brugs to spread it. And viruses can take a long while to show up so you would not even know they have it.

And truth be told, no one can tell for sure what is wrong with a brug unless you have it tested and even then it is questionable.

I know it is tough. You go from nurturer to executioner.

That kind of looks like something living crawling around inside the stem. just a guess. It also looks like you have broad mites on those leaves. I"ve never seen anything like what's on your leaf. Is it happening to all the leaves? just a few? Strange. I'll have to watch this to see what others say.

Kathy, its on alot of the stems, the plant has tried to get healthy and then I see more leaves just hanging, snapped down....Im going to just get rid of it and not worry..I sure dont want my other brugs to get contaminated with whatever it is..if it was a really nice brug I would try and fight but Im just so afraid and with me bringing mine in soon and having them go dormant and live in kind of harsh conditions with not very much water and the aphids in February, I will opt for healthy plants compared to sick and giving it to all of them...I hope somebody does recognize what is going on and let all of us know...Judy

I certainly understand that, throw that baby out then LOL.
