TONS of buds but getting colder now...

Billerica, MA(Zone 6a)

I think I'll probably be really disappointed soon. I have a couple of white unknowns and they've each had a couple of blooms this summer. Nothing exciting but they were nice. So, now that it's getting on the end of summer and the nights are getting cooler, they've decided to break into a song and dance routine and have so many buds I lost count!!!!

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to prolong my season before I have to bring them inside? I was thinking of making some sort of opaque frame around them for the nights and remove in the AM. But they're really too big for that to be done without breaking off so many stems and leaves. I would love to have a few more blooms before moving them into my basement for the winter.

They are in above ground containers against my house so they get some reflected heat and sun from my yellow siding from about 9am - 3pm.

Thanks in advance for whatever tips you have.

Don't know how tall yours are, but if I can, I pull mine in and out of the garage door . . . I feel your pain. I baby and fuss all spring and summer and then they finally pay off and it's time for winterizing..... one I'm VERY pleased with is Maya, first blooms were May 31st this year, and has rewarded me with 3 other flushes and still trying to go again.. Wish I could be of more help.... move south? :)

We have a potential FROST tonight so i brought my brugs in pots to the back door of my office in case I hafta scoot them in. I am frustrated because I wanted to chose which ones I couldn't live without before I bring them in (I have 8 and they weren't much of a show), but only one and it's cutting plant from last year will bloom in time. (It also bloomed in June and it's pink with no name.)

Yes, it is a sad, sad time of year in the garden..... Of course, I'm saying AGAIN this year... I'm not bringing them all in.... I need to downsize..... but, I won't. I'll have the neighbor boys and my son and my garden buddy all helping me get them around the house and just outside the garage door.... :( I should move south.

We all should-but then we would long for northern plants!

And I moved FROM the south!!!
I guess I'll leave them where they are for now. When does everyone normally bring them inside?

Lora, 2 years ago I kept waiting and waiting to get that last bloom..I didnt have anywhere to store them then...I was getting ready to chop them...so when the sleet storm came I was out in the backyard making piles of brug cuttings...there was sleet all over the piles and of course I got them all mixed up by the time I brought them into my back room....but the root ball in the pots didnt freeze and they actually started to get leaves during the rest of the time between light frosts...do you have room for all of yours inside?...I usually take the bloomers in just to make sure I see the flush and the rest I leave out until its cold enough for all the leaves to fall off..this helps from having to pick them all off before i bring them in...now Im close to Lake Michigan so we have more sheltered areas then the rest of my town....Judy
