Does anyone use it ?
I hurt my knee and the weeds are taking over .
When do you apply it ?
Any plants to keep it away from ?
How often ?
Anything better ?
Preen ? good - bad - any advice
I use Amaze, but you have to get the weeds out first. Then apply a coating to the soil don't put it on any plants, then mulch. But even doing this the weeds always take over from July to September every year so you might not think it works. But I can't imagine without it.

Well Tony, I guess it depends on where you want to use it. Every year I have had a problem with my perennial bed and the weeds because of surgeries I couldn't get down to pull them. So, this year I got them out and then (because of moles) I put down a bed of 1 inch chicken wire, then a layer of newspapers (12 pages thick) and then 4 inches of mulch. So far this year it looks great. We'll see.how it goes.
NOW, I have discovered castor oil for the moles. They hate it!! And they have gone to the other side of the house and there is a mine field over there. I just can't seem to find anyone to sell it in a quantity that I need. It only takes a half a cup for 2 gallons of water. But, I don't know how often I would have to spray it on. Next year I will plant castor beans. That is suppose to keep them out.
I haven't seen a mole around my place in the two years I have had castor beans planted. Must be something to it. I know I use to see the cats carrying them around but not in the last two years.
How sweet.
I will second the newspaper and mulch for sure!! This is the second year now and very few weeds come up. I have to put more paper down maybe once a year but its mostly grass that pops up thu.

I love Preen. The year I found it was the last year I spent 1 day a weekend on my knees pulling weeds. I used to swear neighbors walked by and tossed grass seed in. It is great.
It doesn't kill weeds, just makes sure weed seeds (or any seed) do not germinate so you can use it on just weeded beds or use it on beds with weeds, and it will just keep new weeds from germinating.
I use it twice a year. I just toss a fine layer all over my beds and water it in. And I am done. I have tried other kinds but they do not keep out all weeds like Preen does. I buy mine in the spring at Costco, it is cheapest there and they sell a huge box. Orchards has it but it is much more expensive.
I think it is the best thing ever!!! The only downside is I used to have lots of volunteers like California poppies that used to come up all over.
Thanks , I'll buy some next time I am at costco
tonyjr, I have a huge container of it, never opened, bought 3 years ago. I knew it couldn't be a wonder drug or surely I'd hear more about it - here's the deal, it is for weeds and weeds aren't our worse problem here, it's bermuda grass and I supposed Preen doesn't kill that - if it does, please let me know and I'll open mine and try it...
For me it is a wonder product. If I could only keep one thing for my yard, I would pick Preen. I so hate to weed and have spent so many hours doing it in my life.
When I discovered it on my own a few years ago and saw how great it was, I rushed over to a friend's house to share the big news. Her yard is always immaculate and has large areas of soil between plants (though I am trying to fill it up) and I have never ever seen even 1 weed. So I thought I would save her so much weeding time. I should have known she was not weeding as she has bad hips. She said to me that she had been using it for years. I was so mad, I said to her didn't she think she should have told me about it then years before. LOL!
Tony, Costco only sells it in spring or to whenever their shipment gets bought. It is a seasonal sale for them.
Yea , I found out the Costco in oakland was out today . Lowes didn't have any either . Lowes in Union city did get in a shipment of Cycamens today tho .
I just want it for weeds or other seeds the birds leave in my yard .
Orchards Supply always has it.
I'm not in a real hurry , I have to hire someone to do the weed thing . Then it will be put out .
I use it a LOT.. My boss told me about it.. she said "KEEP putting it on, it will work" so I did.. I only get tiny lil sprouts here and there.. so I'm sold.. completely.
I had the grass problem too.. so I dug out a trench about a foot deep, edged it with sunken bricks and took the soil completely out.. then I ran it through a screen to get all the roots.. now I know that was extreme.. but it worked for nearly 8 years so far!
