Storing tulip bulbs

Aurora, CO(Zone 5a)

I got some tulip bulbs today -- big, healthy ones. They came in a plastic bag. I may not be able to get them planted this weekend. From what I understand, planting them in late September or October is just fine, and the instructions on the bag said to plant them within six months of purchase, so I have plenty of time.

But how should I store them for the next week or two? Should I take them out of the plastic bag and wrap them in paper towels or newspaper? My den is below ground and cooler than the rest of the house. Should I keep them there?

For the next couple of weeks, take them out of the plastic bag and put tjem in a shoe box or something like that....no lid on it and keep them in the den.....they'll just be fine. Planting them within 6 month is rediculous!! They need to be planted this year and depending on where one is....up north from now until the middle of October.....down south until Christmas and Co is considered up north.

Thanks, Bleek. I can just take them out of the bag and keep them in the small box they came in. They'll get planted in the next week or so at the latest.

I got them on ebay, so I was a little worried about what I might get, but these are solid, healthy bulbs, pink fountain, which is one of the ones I was looking for.

You can put them into the ground and they will be cared for by mother nature. Cover them with chicken wire and cover with mulch so the critters don't dig them up.

I'd store them in a room-temp closet- The coolness could trigger root growth. Tell them it is still summer, not fall rooting time yet. But even so, tulips are tough and would be fine in the den...
(My educated guess, but not scientific.)
