Am desperately looking for these cestrums species - as far as I know they are native to Costa Rica but I have not been able to find a source for them.
cestrum aurantiacum
cestrum lanatum
cestrum parqui
cestrum newelli
cestrum nocturnum
cestrum standleyi
If anyone has any plants to trade or even knows where I can get them please let me know.

Wanted: cestrum lanatum, parqui, newelli, aurantiacum etc.
hello cat. had to look those plants up. the newelli is listed online at tiny treasures nursery. i want one too.
Cat,
I have the Cestrum Neweli. It only has a couple of stems and I'd like to cut it back to encourage it to bush out a bit. I was afraid to cut it back earlier because I didn't want to loose the flowers but it never flowered. Does anyone know the best wat to root it?

I know you were probably preferring to trade, but if you can't find the ones you want, I've seen many different Cestrum species available mail order from Kartuz, sometimes they are out of stock on stuff but you can put yourself on a waiting list and they'll let you know when they have them in stock. Top Tropicals also carries some Cestrums so you might check there too. They have bigger plants than Kartuz which are of course more expensive too! Between TT and Kartuz, I think they have all of the ones you want except for lanatum and standleyi--those you may have a hard time finding, I collect Cestrum's too and I've never run across either of those.
Thanks ya'll for the info on the nurseries. I shall look them up shortly.
Mamajack...those cestrums are not usually on the US market but several butterfly conservatories grow them as they are a larval host for clearwing butterflies from Costa Rica.
There are some species of butterflies in Mexico and this area has gotten a rare stray for the past couple of years. Am hoping if I plant some of the larval host plant other butterflies may find it. I don't believe in importing larva but will do what I can to attract the butterflies naturally.
Am of the belief *if you plant it, they will come* :o) I know it's a long shot for a rare stray to even show up in the southern U.S. and an even further stretch for it to find my yard!!! Oh well, it could happen...afterall, this same time last year I found some strange looking caterpillars on my backyard duranta that turned out to be the rare marius hairstreak. Those buggers made big news in lep circles :o)

What have you got to trade? :-) I know a local private source for C. nocturnum (I have a small one myself, but it's too small for cuttings), and I *think* I have C. aurantiacum (I can't remember right now whether it's aurantiacum or newelli -- I made cuttings of both in the spring, but only one pot took -- and I'll have to check to see if I got it labelled!).
Ah Amazondoc...I've already ordered some from Kartuz :o)
