Question about brugs seed pods

Muskegon, MI(Zone 5a)

Well Ive had this seed pod on my unknown brug since last fall...do they usually take this long?..Also are all seed pods full of viable seeds or are some just duds....I keep looking at this pod and its just as green as when it matured in my breezeway last fall..Ive added a picture of the pod below..Judy

well I am definately no expert but if I had a seed pod that long I would open it up, did you feel it to see if it was firm?

Gee, sangs take that long, about 9 months. I once left one on for a year and the seeds were germinating inside.

I would take a clean razor and slice a little window flap to look in. If they are white and immature looking then they are not ready. Use Elmers glue and seal it back up though I have left my windows open and the pod does fine.

Has the pod been growing? Also feel it, sometimes the mature seeds move in it. But I must say you have been waitng a long time. I have had pods go over winter which do nothing during that time and then go late into summer before they ripen. But this is a long time. 6 to 7 months have been my longest time thoug I recall one went longer and drove me nuts.

That doesn't look very mature or even a good size. I had a pod once on Georgia Peach which I have been told is a sterile brug. It grew only so big and sat there for a long time until I lost track of it. I think it was a sterile pod with non viable seeds. Like a false pregnancy. But I have no idea if this is true, I just gathered this is what happened.

Not all seeds germinate and when I peel them some are empty.

What does your peduncle look like? Is it healthy looking?

Kell, when I try to squeeze the pod it felt pretty firm...Im going to go out and just cut it open...now if there are seeds inside you think they will be viable?..how can you tell other then trying to grow them...?.Judy

To know for sure , you will have to peel them .
You can also use Kell's rockwool in ziplock bag .
If you don't have rockwool avalible you can you the fiberglass [ rockwool ] wraping to insulate pipes - ace hardware or big box stores

Ive got all the seeds in a baggies with wet paper towel>>>we shall see if they sprout for me...I did see a few roots off the other seeds too....I didnt even have to peel them so they must have been ready to take awhile ago...Judy

I would say soon you will have baby brugs running around. LOL.

I am trying to remember how mine did that were over ripe and had germinated in the pod. Odd how the pod decided not to show its true age. Must have good genes. LOL
