Thought I'd post this info here in case anyone is interested.
There's a mountain spring on the side of the road near Edinburg where anyone can help themselves to as much free spring water as they want. Many people in this area go there to get drinking water - the water is excellent, definitely better than the spring water you buy at the store.
To get to it, from Route 11 just north of Edinburg, turn onto Edinburg Gap Road (it's a right turn if you're traveling north from Edinburg, a left turn if you're traveling south from Woodstock.) Go maybe 5-7 miles on that road to the spring, which is on the left side of the road. When you get to the top of the mountain the spring will be maybe another half mile or so. There's a small pulloff and three white pipes coming out of the mountainside to collect the water.
It's a pretty unsafe place to be cutting across the road when you want to leave because of a blind curve just beyond it. If I'm coming from that direction, I go down the road just a little further where there's a national park access road on the left. I turn in there and turn around so I can approach the spring pulloff from the right side of the road.
You'll have to bring your own water bottles.
