12 inches of pure bud!

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

I have no clue which brug this is, I found it just like it appears here sitting in my death alley. This is where all my plants go before they go to plant heaven. It is also a sick bay and a place for plants I just had to have but have no business having for they hate me and my house. It is in a 5 gallon can and I think it is its 3rd year in the same pot, untouched. It stands about 7 ft tall. I have about 4 just like it lined up in the same place. It gets nothing but water on scant occasion, and is in a lot of shade. I also wonder when I last tossed fertilizer its way though it did get a big handful 20-20-20 at some point for I did all my pots and a few foliar feeds. It also has had Neem Oil a few times in the last 3 weeks for a bad case of mites.

But against all odds, it decided to do what it was born to do................

40 BUDS IN 12 INCHES OF STEM!

That's it!! I worked entirely too hard for my 160 buds on an entire plant, let alone 40 buds in 12 inches of stem. Good grief!!!
The lesson to all this, I guess, is to just abuse and neglect them? :)

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

My numbered pic above starts at about 5 inches and ends at 17 inches which = 12 inches of blooming love.

Needless to say regardless of which this is, it has a reprieve out of death alley and I will find a place for it. But no doubt it will never bloom like this again. LOL

Or scare them into blooming. LOL. One look around at death alley made it take notice. It is so potbound though, truly amazing.

Oh Felicia, sometimes there is no rhyme or reason to these plants. I have treated some so well and they die and others I put on ignore and they flourish.

Watch this one be so ugly. LOL

Premont, TX(Zone 9b)

Wow Kell,
Thats awesome ! After this kind of reward do not send it to DEATH ALLEY or Brug heaven Please! Send it to South Texas I will give it a good home and lots of TLC... LOL... There should be a law preventing brug death alley.LOL LOL
We are going to form a brug lovers rescue farm. I think I will start one and change the name of my ranch from Sliverwings Ranch to Brug Lover Rescue Farm..
You know like they have for dogs and cats etc well Now we will have one for brugs..Brug abuse will now come to a stop ! LOL

Kell I think you could plant a dried stick and it would bloom. I pet and pamper and still mine just never look like your plants.

Ruth

Union City, CA(Zone 9b)

Thanks , I was wondering if mine aren't blooming because they mite be rootbound .
I hurt my knee , so there's alot to do , but repotting isn't high on list .
Next week we are going to Home depot and hire a guy for a day or 2 depending on how much it costs .

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Home Depot has guys you can hire to repot? Do not repot to much bigger if you are leavnig them all out for winter becuase of the rains. Better to be rootbound going into the rainy season, of course I have just repotted a few way up. I need to listen to myself. LOL Bu tcold and real wet usually is not good news for tropicals.

Oh Kin, you eagle eye you. My hand got too tired writing all those numbers. All fixed. LOL I actually have many more buds on those 12 inches but they are out the backside and to get to them I would have knocked some off turning the pot because of where the plant is located and the sweep of the branches.

Elva, we used to have the Brug Abuse Police a few years ago. As I recall Susie went traveling to inspect inspect inspect. LOL We had a lot of fun then.

My version of Death Alley will be the horror of a dry overheated indoor stairwell, which is one of two locations I can store my brug seedlings overwinter. At least the stairwell is warm and has a skylight, so I can keep them growing. Kell might even bloom!

The other spot is the basement, where I will put these babies into dormancy and hope they survive. All advice gratefully received.

Dripping Springs, TX(Zone 8b)

wow

Billerica, MA(Zone 6a)

kell,
Have these bloomed yet? I'd love to see a photo if they have. It must look amazing.
LoraB.

Brigham City, UT(Zone 5b)

Kell, there you go again, showing us all up. I can't believe your brugs. They just love their mama, no matter what she does to them.

Congratulations. Again and Again.

I counted 13 buds on my unknown pink, some just tiny, but 13 there are. Hope they bloom.

Marie.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Oh Andy, I have no clue which would be best for your babies. They do like to go dormant for awhile. I keep mine going all winter because it doesn't get cold here. They do kind of stop growing though. If you are worried, take cuttings and keep them going all winter as backup.

Oh Marie, I hope they bloom too for you. And get us pictures!

Oh dear LoraB, I hate to say this but I forgot all about this plant. It is on the side of my house so out of sight, out of mind. I have been so involved in begonias lately so brugs are taking a distant second. I will check it out in the morning. I should run out and water though. I hope it is not all deflated.

Springfield, IL(Zone 5b)

holy cow Kell that is wonderful woohoo you have such a green thumb lol

Billerica, MA(Zone 6a)

I hope it's not deflated too!

Premont, TX(Zone 9b)

Kell, go water that poor brug ! Brug police is on its way ! I must rescue that poor baby. send it here and I will give plenty of TLC...........
lol

I had gone out to look the other day and was not thrilled. I have no clue which brug this is at all. I need to pull it out of the 5 gallon pot it is in to check for the tag. All I can think is it is a seedling from the plots that I cut off a 7ft cutting and rooted it. I root al lmy tall cuttings in 5 gallon pots. Anyway, its form and color is not of much interest. They number of flowers is amazing though. All I can think is it gets very dark in the heat. I will keep it one more year before it goes just to see the summer color. I may cross it wiht a long tendiled dark brug tomorrow just for fun.

Lots have already fallen off and I am amazed that there are lots more coming.

Would love to see a picture of this one with the blooms open. The buds are so close together and no matter what color or shape, it would have to be pretty sight.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Let me try posting the picture again. Nothing special. Lots of the blooms have gone by but I was shocked to see how many unopened ones there are too.

Thumbnail by Kell
NE, KS(Zone 5b)

Wow, now see what neglect gets you? If I did that mine would be dead... (or would they???)... Maybe I'll try neglect with one next year (if I can). No one send the brug police, might just be a new method! (ha) I think they are pretty, Kell!

Billerica, MA(Zone 6a)

Wow. Those are lovely!

Premont, TX(Zone 9b)

Kell
You are spoiled my friend by all the other beautiful brugs you havewhat do you mean nothing special. That flower is awesome love the color and shape.. I think its time to start giving out fines.lol you know they do for speeding etc. this are brug neglect fines.lol

brug police is looking so be careful ! LOL

Elva

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Oh Elva, it is not even the brugs I have but the brugs I see. I really do not have many I love myself. I am not as enamored as most of you are with brugs anymore. Time has passed for that. I look at them very critically.

I have seen so many and grown so many. I am very specific now in my tastes in brugs. I have a good friend who grows great brugs and I get to see all of hers too. Now some of those are droolable. LOL

When I say nothing special I mean it is so like so many already out there. It is pretty and would be a great addition to anyone's garden but it is nothing new or different. Now I will admit, if it flowers like this all the time, that is special!! And maybe I should pollinate a few of those blooms. And if they take you can have the pods.

This is my idea of a fun brug. I love her luscious lips. I call this one Hot Lips. LOL. She gets darker too.

Thumbnail by Kell
Premont, TX(Zone 9b)

ok Kell get out and start playing the little bee, I love the pods. Hot Luusious Lips is to die for. wow. !
No wonder you are so picky, you have seen and had them all. Time for a new hobby huh?
Me I am thrilled because I will see my brugs bloom some for the frist time others only for the 2nd time, so I am drooling here.lol

Elva

Elva

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

I used to be like that too Elva. I lusted after every brug that was shown on here. LOL. I dreamed about them. I can remember seeing Butterfly and just wanting it so much. If you are a bloomaholic, the first time you see brugs you just think you went to heaven. LOL.

The trouble with Hot Lips is she is deflating this year in the daytime. I can't remember her doing it last year but maybe I was just so enthralled I didn't notice.

Here is another one I am in love with. So different and she doesn't have any suav in her either for such a sunny full face. I almost lost her too. For some reason I put her on ignore last year and then this year I was thinking how much I really did love her so I potted her up a few sizes in my new soil mix with coir and oh what a nightmare. She immediately started to die. I finally just cut her off at the base and rerooted her and she took thank God. I really need to take cutting so just in case I do lose her.

Oh mY Kell She's beautifull !

Elva

Tyler, TX(Zone 8a)

Kell, I see why you have gotten so picky about which you like and don't like. With some of the beautiful ones you have crossed and so many you have to be picky. I am getting picky just listening to what you tell me to look for. But the one you have there is so pretty I don't know how you will get a better but you will. Good luck and thank you for the help. Joan

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Oh thanks Joan. I tell you it is cheaper to just buy a few of the ones you love so much than trying to grow them. It costs so much in time and money. They are needy buggy things. LOL

But I tell you they can change a lot from the first year so watch for pictures for 2 years before you spend the big bucks. Also I have noticed how much environment can change them too. In one place they will be gorgeous and in another location I look at the same one and go ICK!! LOL

Elva, I pollinated the multibudded one for you, 2 blooms with MM and 2 with Ruthie. It is getting late for them to take but we will see.

Premont, TX(Zone 9b)

Oh My Goodness Kell that last one is beautiful. I see what you mean But me I love them all. Thanks and I hope we they take and we get some beauties out of the seeds

Elva

Tyler, TX(Zone 8a)

Kell, that is another thing I am learning the hard way. Zone makes all the difference In the way a brug blooms. Red spider just strip all my plants so we need something that does not draw them and can stand the hot muggy heat here. I have found a few but not many. I will only grow a few brugs and seedlings for two or three people next year.
Joan

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 4a)

Kell you grow such gorgeous pinks!
:) Donna

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Thanks Donna.

Joan, I really think the less you grow of these the less problems you have. When I just a had a few I never even got mites or any crud.

I should go and see if any pods formed, Elva. It is cold here this week and I have been so neglectful.
