Update

Kellyville, OK(Zone 7a)

I am amazed at how fast the buds grow. Could it be that I take so many pics that the camera flash is providing more light than normal. John

This unknown is just now putting on buds, it is over 5ft tall, has a lot of foiliage. Look at how fat the two buds are. These are cuttings that karokee was kind enough to send me last year. John

My unknowns are about to burst, too. Must be the season! One isn't even 5 ft and has more than 2 doz buds... it's on a strait single trunk, looks pretty cool, wish it would stay under 5 ft..

That's awesome, John!! I bet you're so excited about now. They must be happy brugs!

I have an unknown that gets fat buds like that- how exciting!

This cutting has two sprouts from the bottom that are almost as tall as the main trunk, but with no "Y's" Are they taking away from the main plant? John

Greensburg, IN(Zone 6a)

If it were mine I would remove those two, maybe try to root them

Kellyville, OK(Zone 7a)

Doris, would you try and root the whole sprout? And how would you remove from the trunk? I have been so happy that it has buds and sure dont want to do anything to compromise the buds. This is one of the cuttings that you sent me. John

Are the buds on the main stem ?
If so it will not hurt them to cut off the extra growth, BUT if the buds are on them just leave them alone.

I just can't bring myself to cut a limb with buds, I've fussed ALL summer just to get em'. I'd wait till after it blooms, cut the whole limb, strip the leaves, except for a few at the top and stick in a bubbler bucket, plant next spring. Doris, have you started any that way?

Kellyville, OK(Zone 7a)

Doris, the buds are on the main stem, the side shoots are just about as tall, but no "Y's"

Greensburg, IN(Zone 6a)

Then it should not hurt the main stem, may even give more strength to the buds, cut them a couple of inches above where they are frowing then put them in water, hopefully they will root for you.
