How long have you had your pond? How big is it? Do you have plants? Fish? What size filter and what kind? Do you have a UV light?

Its a neighbors pond its about 50 by 100. Is a spring that has been damed up.
It just started turning green in the summer and they don't realize how it smells but told me if I wanted it cleaned up to clean it my self.
It has a horrible odor and there are no plants in it. It may be about 3 feet deep.

Sounds like it needs some good circulation and a filter.

LavinaMae, with West Nile Virus being a concern, have you contacted any local agency that would be interested in or the authority for mosquito control? They might have information or advice.

Claremore, OK

Why did they dam it? To water livestock?

Grantsboro, NC(Zone 8b)

It used to be in a pasture. Then DHs parents bought the land next door and the pond just stayed. It has 3 springs in it according to our neighor accross the street. She said it was used as a community watering hole in the early 1900s.
I'll try and take a oicture when I get a chance.

Sounds like stagnant water. Find out what the golf courses near you use.
I've heard of a dye you can put in the water. I don't know how much you'd need or how much it would cost . Also, I don't know how long it lasts.

Could be somebody's septic system or animal waste is getting in it.

I haven's thought about the neighbors septic tank. They just built the home year before last and there was no problem before then. HUMMMM
