Daylilies
My garden in my part of B.C
they're beautiful. I take it you don't have much of a problem with deer.
Yes this year, for the first time in 9 years they got my tulips. As long as they don't take up residence I''ll give them some of tulips. Lynn
Lynn...I just love your little piece of Paradise. Your gardens are just beautiful.. Way to Go!
Don
You sure have a wonderful garden and view Lynn. Please show us some more. I see you have some of all the right plants. (my favourites, lilies, hems and irises) Who is that big lily in the back? Is that the same slope that the lupins are on?
Oooh, I like that one. Think I killled mine. Didn't see it this year, but maybe next year it will show up. Very nice.
I love that......this flower thing is addictive!!! WOW, that is why we are here!! Lynn, welcome to the nuttiest forum on Dave's...........beautiful spaces you have!......we have one gal so hung up on Daylilies, some, Brugs, and me, crazy for the Roses! hpy gdng........Elaine(aka, ramblin' rose)
Hello Lynn,
Thank you for showing your beautiful property. Mountains! What a view indeed!
Did you say hostas? Love to see them if you have a pic(s).
Erynne
What a lovely property you have Lynn! Your pictures are making me miss Vancouver Island though. I lived there for three years way back when, and in all my travels since I have never found another mountainous area that looks quite the same or calls to my soul like the BC Rockies do. They're in my blood now :-) --Ginny
Hi Erynne. Have Hostas planted on 2 sides of the house. I also have Patriot and Diana Remembered planted under a plum tree, patiently waiting for more company. Good excuse to buy more. Looking at Budd gardens, just have to convince myself I can afford them. (not hard)
Excuse the unfinished condition of our house, we are building ourselves, but I had to rush and get planting. leave no bare ground untouched. (also haven't decided how to finish bottom, leaning toward rock. just have to gain self convidence to do it).
Lynn
Hi Lynn,
I quit trying to find excuses to buy more hostas. I just let them follow me home now, lol. Diana Remembered is on my to buy list for next year; very nice. I see some lovely blues and a goldish one in your garden......which ones are they?
I'm always amazed when people custom build their own homes and yours is beautiful. Is that a deck just above your hosta garden?
Thanks for sharing again,
Erynne
Hi Erynne
I like that, from now on they followed me home. I have Francee, Wide Brim, Gold Standard, Big Umbrellas & Bressingham Blue ( I hope) Ordered some from Veseys and find you don't always get what your buying.
So Far 3 out of 6 irises I ordered are not true to name. Most annoying.
Large deck on side of house at left hand side of picture, walk around deck on front and right hand side.
I have a few names of hosta, that I think I might like. Dancing in the Rain, Jack of Diamonds and Great Expectation. I,m already working on 2007.
Thanks for the heads up. Lynn
hop into my shopping basket when I'm not looking.
BTW do you know aout the BC Iris Society if you are an irisarian.

Hi Lynn,
Did you order your hosta from Veseys? I ordered a selection from them where you get 10 hostas for 19.99. The problem I had with them was the packaging. All 10 bare root hostas were in ONE BAG together with no labels or tags to tell who was who. Completely and utterly annoying indeed especially since I had to pot them all up and wait until they'd grown some to ID them. Not very practical for placement purposes....grrrr. I most likely will not order any live plants from them again.....just seeds, because they germinated and grew well for me.
I've started on my hosta list for next year as well as a daylily list now that I know I can grow them well enough. I really want Spacecoast Starburst. Now I just have to find a source up here. Actually, I really like all those Spacecoast daylilies, lol.
Erynne
Lynn,
Lovely scenery and gardens. House too and what an undertaking, building it yourselves.
For Hosta orders, try out Hosta Choice here in Ontario. They do a lot of mail order even into the US and the hostas I received from them were wonderful. I also found that the Hostas I received from Floral and Hardy were very nice though one was mislabelled and I know some people had issues with the timing of their orders. I have links to both on my own Hosta pages - http://www.magma.ca/~fredrkng/Ann/Ann_hostas06.html
BTW, Diana Remembered is also one of my favourites.
Ann
Yes I have info on B.C. iris society.
Thanks girls for all the neat sayings.
I ordered a 3 pack special that Veseys had on 50% off. I guess I only got half my moneys worth. Plants, but no tags. Thank god for pictures.
Haven't heard of spacecoast daylilies will have to check that out.
New to all this what does BTW mean
This is still my favorite.
By The Way = BTW
Tend to think in shorthand sometimes.
YYZ = Toronto
YVR = Vancouver
YYJ = Victoria (BC)

Inanda - are those airport designations? Like YOW for Ottawa?
Lovely yard Lynn (even without seeing your location you'd know it was there.......all that lovely green lush grass). Never mind that drop dead gorgeous view!!! Red Hot is calling my name (one of these years one will be mine (not a tissue culture please tho).
Oh, aren't you fortunate. That must be fun. I do my mothers gardens for her and a few planters. She doesn't remember the names of some of the flowers anymore, that she use to grow.
Pam, TC is fine for lilium. It's daylilies that you dont want to buy unless you know for sure they are not TCed.
Viola Ann YOW is one I can never forget.
Ones I get mixed up with are DAY and DAB.
Daytona and Dayton Ohio. As I write this, dont know which is which.
Echoes, my Mama would tell me gardening stories but she never helped. (bad knees). She was a good duck chaser though.- I had tiny pea gravel for her to throw at them if theyventured into the veggie garden.

What a wonderful helper Lynn and what a joy it would be for you two to spend time together......your mom reminds me of my paternal grandmother (and one great grandmother) who both gardened until they turned 90.
Yes it is great, Liliypon. We tell everyone we putter all day long. Another project we have on the go is making lawn edging with cement using old bread pans and lots of colored rocks. Got tired of replacing the wood evey 3 years, as it would get rotten and end up making a mess. Mom collects the rocks on her walk with the dog in the am. Lynn
Lynn,
I'd love to be able to putter in the garden with my Mom, but she's way out there in Fernie, B.C. Gosh, what a fantastic view you have. Our house is right in the trees and we have no view, but I've said I'd like our next house to have a view of a sunrise or sunset. Now, whether I'd be able to leave my garden or not is another story!
Love that edging idea too! How deep are the 'blocks'? I have a spot where my flagstone pathway meets the grass and that would be a great idea to keep it from encroaching. How many do you do at once?
Sandy
Hi Sandy Glad to meet you. Spending all this time with my Mom is great. I cherish what time I have left with her.
We do six bread pans at a time. We fill them to about half inch from the top. so makes it about 3 1/2 inches thick, but you could do less.
Approx. 12 cups of clean sand to 4 cups cement. We may make 2 batches as if there is to much mixture, its hard to stir. Don't make it to sloppy or the rocks sink. We then just twist the rocks till they are set 1/2 in the cement. Let them dry 2 days. sending close up pic.
Lynn
Lynn,
Thanks for the info and especially the pic. That is so inspiring. I've been wanting to do some pebble mosaic for a couple of years now, I have a whole file of pics for inspiration, may I add yours?
I have a small triangle area in my new walkway and I'd love to make a pebble mosaic. You know, where you create a design with smaller, coloured stones. Have you ever tried that? I'm thinking I have concrete phobia because I keep putting it off!
Sandy
Pebble mosaic at Montreal Botanical Gardens:
Sandy By all means use my pic. appericiate some of yours to, might give me some ideas for other things. I use the cement in a 3 to 1 mixture, always works well for me.
Lynn
Thanks, Lynn. BTW that swath of daylilies in front of your house is stunning. Maybe I'll post some pics tomorrow if it's still raining.
Sandy
Love the cement "bread" edging.I've got some bread pans that look just like that except that they still get used regularly for bread. Guess I could go to the thrift store. LOL
Ann
Thanks for the reminder, only just remember I forgot to tell everyone we grease the pans with diesel fuel first.
Very inventive Lynn ........ I really like how it looks! :)
Lovely, Lynn!
Don
So Lynn, just how close were you to the edge? I see you got the fence in the picture. I'm not sure I'd have gotten that close even. What a view to enjoy!
Oh darn you got me. That was the fence for the top level, and I was standing back about 6ft.back. Beside the fence is a set of stairs that goes down to a lower level that literley hangs out over the cliff.
I love waterfalls! My favourite thing, besides, well you know, plants....
Sandy
