and now the harvest

Seed gathering has started in earnest. I have this compulsion......

Thumbnail by echoes

To gather seeds from every plant in my gardens. What for I don't know, because I sure don't need more.

I will put a list here of everything I have so far, and add to it as I get more. I don't have a lot of time to spend gathering seeds so if you know I have a plant that you want seeds from please ask, and I will try to get them. Then I won't be gathering stuff for nothing. You can have what you want for sending stamps.

Orangeville, ON(Zone 4b)

Thank you again Brenda. Will send stamps out this week. :o)

(Zone 5b)

Brenda....I've ignored late summer yellows in my garden for so long...but really like your above photo, but don't know what it is.
Jacqui

Jaqui, that is Dianthus knappii. A tall, long blooming yellow one, about the same tone of yellow as Moonbeam Coreopsis. Not the most decorative Dianthus, but a nice filler, or colour splash. Want some?

(Zone 5b)

Thanks Brenda...I'd gladly give Dianthus knappi a try. Do you sow the seeds indoors?
Jacqui

I started them indoors if I remember right. Not necessary though. They reseed themselves, so maybe sow them in the fall, or winter sow and they should be good. Feel free to pick more, there will be a few more coming.

No rush Erynne, there will probably be some more that you would like?

Orangeville, ON(Zone 4b)

Lol Brenda....here comes the grow op in my basement and I predict another "under the lights" thread again ;p
Seed starting is blooming good fun and I will look up what you have. You have the word "isolated" after your Cosmos.....does that mean something to do with not being open pollinated?? Or something else entirely??

Thanks,
Erynne

Something like that. They are open pollinated, but there are no other Cosmos around them for a long way. Also I tried to get seeds from the best doubles and colours. There were a few in the mix that weren't as double.

Orangeville, ON(Zone 4b)

Thanks Brenda, for putting me down for the Cosmos. I did some seed collecting the other day on a smaller scale than you and I swear I was burnt out afterwards. My eyes were crossed, my fingers were sore and my kitchen floor was covered in "stuff". I'm still waiting on seed heads to ripen to have another go at this. NOW, I really know what goes into seed collecting and your offerings are so very appreciated. I will also make a list in mid-autumn for seeds to share with others.
