mixing vegetables

is there any rule to planting squash together? i planted some zuchini, some crock neck and then about 3 weeks later some patty pan and another variety of zuchini called "8 ball" (suppose to be the size of an eight ball. The 8 ball keeps getting babies, then they die off when they are about the size of a walnut. The other plants did fine, just didnt know if I should have segregated them better and not planted right next to one another.

Aslong as you are not saving seeds, many of these are hybrids anyway, You can mix and match as much as you like. Eight Ball can be picky at times, if your other squash are doing well, then the Eight Ball is just sulking. Here at least late planted squash fare poorly, did both cultivars that you planted late exhibit the same characteristics. One danger of succession planting of squash in close proximity is that a disease or insect build up in the early crop, migrates very rapidly to the second crop.

I have a simular question. What about planting different types of greens together, is it okay?

Augusta, GA(Zone 8a)

Depends. If they are all relatively the same size ok. If you happen to be planting a large cultivar with a small cultivar, then the smaller ones get crowded out or shaded. Lots of folks like mixes, and plant several types with similar growth habits today (Mesclun mixes or turnip and mustard for example)

So that's what my 8-ball squash is supposed to look like.

i assume it tastes the same as regular zuchini?

My 8-Ball was the only squash that did well for me this year.

I like it better than regular zucchini because it keeps better for me.
