Ginger bud?

I had posted this over on the tropical forum and they suggested that I post here cause you guys are experts

I have a bud on a ginger...no clue what kind or variety...
we don't have a lot of exposure to gingers up here

Here's the bud

and here's the whole plant with some others

I was told its a costus(I cant spell)

its about 3 foot and the canes spiral

I am curious what it will look like blooming...I have to dig it up in the next few weeks to get it in the GH for the winter and it may kill the bloom....sooooo close........yet soooo far

Difficult to say for sure without seeing the flower, but most likely it is Costus scaber - often sold under the incorrect name of Costus spicatus or "Indian head ginger". More information and photos at
