Our Tropical Project.

Key West, FL(Zone 11)

A couple of years ago we purchased our property in Ft lauderdale and have spent most of this time building the new house. If all goes well ( it hasn't been easy so far) we plan on being in by Spring.
We have so many ideas about how we want the landscape to feel in different areas and have started to meet with some Gardeners, Installation Companies and landscape architetcs.

I am asking for some help if I may to get this just the way we want it with some help from you.

Our first task is to find the basic bones of the garden, many of which I already have a lists of favorites to choose from, Large Shrubs , Small Trees Palms etc. although were not even close to planting yet .

I do need help finding some hedges, some tall some low

First the low hedges, which I would like to be very tight and architectural.

Although Ficus does really well down here , It's just so common and I find it lifeless and unruly unless kept in check constantly

I like Variegated pittosporum.

but
I was wondering if anybody had used 'Ficus benjamina 'Variegata' as a low hedge and had some pictures

The property is located in Ft Lauderdale which I believe to be Zone 10B and is situated on the Intracoastal Waterway.
Heres a picture of the property from the other side with the original house built in the 50s.
