Yes,you can get ginger to bloom in snow country......
but ....its helpful to know what kind you got blooming....LOL
this is a bud on a ginger....not sure what kind of ginger it is let alone what variety
I think its a spiral ginger
the stalks coil around
ginger bud
Looks like a costus to me. Dijaknow that the flowers are edible? When the flowers pop out and are fresh, they are great in salads...but mine never make it to the house 'cause I just eat them out of hand. There is one costus that tastes of raspberry and another like Granny Smith Apples!!! Great plant...looks really happy there!!
You're kiddin....
I can eat the blooms.......
what do the blooms look like....LOL
OK...you are going to have those 'little buds'....and from the 'buds' (bracts) there will come flowers. The flowers are edible.
Now...from a picture your plant looks like a costus...but until you get an official ID, don't go eating the flowers and croaking on us...and blaming me!! LOL. But, it sure looks like Costus to me.
Carol
And yes...they are really good!!! Just be sure they are no bees or other 'friendlies' in there before you pop them in your mouth!!!
Edited to say that the bloom is that white thing coming out of the bud. Will take a picture of some tomorrow to show you.
