In a trade, someone sent me an Alpinia zerumbet, it has 3 stalks. It was sent in newspaper that dried out in shipping. The leaves were crispy and it had only 1 long root. I potted it in a mix of peat moss, sand, and perlite, with some little pebbles on the bottom and on the top. Added some SuperThrive to it. It's draining well, I have it in part-sun outside, misting it daily. It's been a week and the leaves are still on the crispy side. Is there anything else I should do for it? What temperatures does it like? We're have days in the mid-70's and nights in the '60's. Should I bring it in? Make a humidity tent? Keep doing the same? It's my first plant of the kind. Thanks.
Alpinia zerumbet has crispy leaves, what to do?
the old leaves will not improve but new leaves should come up. I think you're doing all you can and should do. THey are tough and they will recover. overwatering is your biggest danger so keep that in mind. It will take more than a week, however. also, if your nights are getting cooler, don't know if you need to bring indoors. I don't ever think about that since i'm in a much warmer area. hopefully somebody closer to your area can comment about this plant and its care in cold weather.
it is a great plant
Thanks, Vossner. I gave it 1 good watering and otherwise mist in the mornings.
