Chris Wiesinger, Owner of Southern Bulbs Company, will be the featured speaker at the Tuesday, September 26, 2006, meeting of the Organic Garden Club of Fort Worth.
The program will begin at 7:00 p.m. in Redbud Hall of the Fort Worth Botanic Garden Center, 3220 Botanic Garden Blvd. Mr. Wiesinger, a Texas A & M horticulture graduate, started Southern Bulbs Company in 2004 with the goal of rescuing, growing and selling rare and antique bulbs for warm climates. The bulbs are rescued from old homesites, construction sites and abandoned lots here in Texas and the Southeast after surviving exceedingly hot weather with little or no tending for decades or even centuries. Wiesinger then propagates the heirloom bulbs on his farm just east of Dallas.
As a result, Southern Bulbs Company offers Southern gardeners 18 bulb varietals that thrive in our heat, humidity and soil with no refrigeration, special watering or fertilizing. And the successful venture has earned Wiesinger a spot on House & Garden's list of most important American tastemakers. Mr. Wiesinger will have bulbs available for purchase. Visitors are most welcome and the program is free.
Live around Fort Worth? Here is a free program I ran across
I met these folks when they were looking for bulbs this spring. These young people are excited about what they are doing and seem to be hard working.
Great, nice to know.
They have soem great bulbs too... just wish some fo them had a cheaper price tag... Just means I am going to have to go looking more in the Spring for my own finds!
Chris will be speaking to the Master Gardeners in Austin tomorrow night at Zilker Garden. He'll be also selling his bulbs there. If you can't get to Ft. Worth....you can be a guest at the MG mtg. in Austin!
