I live in Northern Illinois. I would like to try saving my begonia tubers this year. The problem I have is I have no idea as to when to start the drying out process. I have read that you should dig them when the leaves wither, but it seems that in other years, we always got our first hard frost before the leaves wither. Since I assume I shouldn't let them freeze, at what overnight temperature should I quit watering them? I currently have them planted in hanging baskets. Can I store them in the basket or do they have to be dug up? Does drying them out in a warm location mean bring them in the house or will the garage be warm enough?
I also planted a daffodil begonia this summer that never bloomed. I got beautiful leaves but not a single flower. What do you think I did wrong?

Saving Begonia Tubers
Check the sticky at the top of the forum, it has a couple of tuberous begonia care links that hopefully answer your questions.
