I think ive got a transvestite hen, she walks around all puffed up, has all the characteristics of a rooster, this has been going on for about a month, shes about a year and a half old, so has anybody else had this happen????
Ive got a hen that all of a sudden thinks shes a rooster!!!!
Is she eating all right? Does she look swollen? Is she laying?
My hens puff up when they're broody, and they cluck a lot.
I have a hen that tries to crow. It's pretty funny. Awful sound, though.
I've heard of this before. IS she the dominant hen? My dominant hen makes an AWFUL racket while she is keeping everyone else in line. It is a hard job, you know!
Or maybe she is a rooster and is just a very late bloomer!
Do you have a rooster? If not, this is normal behavior. Any species is liable to do this if there in only one gender present.
A lesbi-hen? (NO OFFENSE, ANYONE!)
How many hens to you have?
That's a good point, leaflady. My hen didn't start her crowing until we got rid of the rooster last winter. Now that we have new roosters, she does a quieter crow only after he does. I suppose she is my most dominant hen, as well, so it makes sense.
