I have been wanting to get a picture of this coop my DH built for my silkies. He thinks they look and act like Dr. Seuss Characters and came up with this coop design, I and my silkies and 2 little old english bantams love it.
Dr. Suess Chicken Coop
That's wonderful! And all the Whos down in Whoville.. they're great. You need to get an araucana -- for the green eggs.
Wow what a great husband you have. I love your silkies. theya re my favorite!!
Very cute and charming! :))
I like the house very creative and it looks roomy
calvin
Thanks, yes it's very roomy. This has been a wonderful year witht he silkies, they are so much fun to have, what a treat. I have to say that they are spoiled, they love bread and every afternoon I take them a couple of slices and they will eat it right out of my hand, they don't care to be held much, but don't mind being petted. We bought 2 batches of eggs off of ebay for hatching and ended up with 13 silkies and 2 bantams, not bad for our first times incubating eggs.
They are beautiful, birds. I miss our silkies..they were the most calm, even-tempered of all the chickens! The house is terrific, too! Talk about a henhouse with character!
Really lovely!
You coop is past wonderful, so pretty!! I love your blue banty, beautiful color...
i love your silkies i use too have 3 cute cuddly black silkies so calm and cute i love the little house to its neat look like a deasant sized house
very nice coop. My Eggys are geting ready to hatch!!!
They are tilited on the pointy side is that good or bad???
Tracey
I don't have any black silkies, thats on my list for next year though, LOL. Mine are on the greyish side. They are very happy in there Dr. Seuss Coop.
I think we should try to arrange "egg swaps" next spring early so we can incubate each others eggs.....
Maybe in March everybody post what they have ~vs~ what they would like to have....

Sounds good to me!

I love your coop, Cathy. Are you sure it complies with your county's highrise ordinances? LOL I think it's very creative and cute.
LOL, I hope it complies. Now on to our next adventure, we need a small coop for are little banties. I want to keep them seperate from my other chicks. DH is going to come up with something, he said he's working on a plan now. I won't know what it will look like until its finished. But I do have some demands, I want to keep them together except for mating season, I want to be able to divide the coop to give my banties some privacy so they will give me lots of fertile eggies, LOL.
That is the cutest dang coop I have ever seen.
I thought I had 2 roo's now I am thinking only one - out of a suburban flock of 4 that is one two many. And of course he is my favorite Sir Anthony (used to be Athena) (he is a banty), not sure what is going to happen down the road.......I have 2 Ameraucanas (one that looks just like Hart's Fussbudget) - Cleo & Sophia that are girls and 1 other banty (Tanis/name) thinking the banty's are cochins, not sure. Feed store just had them labeled as Bantam's they both have feathered feet but no extra toe.........just got them this Easter. Complaints from neighbors may make me have to do something but....I guess I am more worried that he might be too much for Tanis cause the other 2 are too big. Does that sound right?
They are such good gardening companions I really enjoy having them. So thanks you all for encouraging/enabling me to take this project on. Truly love all the photo's of the chicks, not a day goes by that I do not check this site out for more photos - so thanks again.
Tell your hubby I don't understand why he didn't paint it Seuss colors - maybe purple and yellow and red and blue? And pink and orange. LOL
What a COOL coop!!! Tell your DH that I give him a "10"!!
He needs to take a picture of you in the doorway! ~:>
:) Glenda
Love it!!! Just Lo----ve it! Now since my DH is so busy with WOODWORKING, and cant seem to get around to building any coops with WOOD, cause hes so busy with WOOD furniture and WOOD picture Frames........ Can I borrow your DH to build me a Dr.Suess WOOD house too?? ( oh well it was a good try!) Hmmmmmm wonder where that Old WOODEN rolling pin is???
" Oh Dear Hubby,.....Oh Keeeeeeeeeen Dear!)
Hey Eufaula, before you use the wooden rolling pin... Would reverse psychology work on your DH??? You know, print off the picture and show it to him, then say "Oh wow honey, look at this awesome Dr. Seuss chicken coop that cbrandenburg's DH build for her. I'd like one similar to it but it would probably too hard for you to make one huh?" Most guys like for their gals to think that there's nothing they can't do, and certainly don't like being "one up-ed" by another guy. ...You get the idea. Would it work??? ;)
Yeah, I know. I'm bad. ....It's still worth a try and better than a rolling pin. lol
~~ Glenda
Awww Glenda, I tried that already! He knows what Im up too!!! He says hes too busy right now! If the roolin' pin doesnt work I have an Iron Skillet!!LOL!!!!
LOL, I wish my DH was a wood worker. I've never been to GA, LOL, it didn't take him to long to build this coop. DH is like the enegizer bunny, he keep going and going. But only with things he like to do. I have lots that needs fixed in the house and he keeps putting those things off forever. I also have a shed that's needed taken down for 10 years now and its still standing, what a ugly site. So I guess we have to take the good with the bad. I think a rolling pin would do wonders.
