My First Blooms!

St. Paul, MN(Zone 4b)

Hello All.

I actually did it. Last fall, as a complete Brugmansia newbie, I successfully rooted fifteen cuttings of various basic varieties that generous Dave's Garden folks shared with me. With a HUGE amount of effort, I managed to get them through our long winter. In early May, I moved them all to larger pots and put them in the garden. They have been watered every day, and have enjoyed regular fertilizing and Messenger-ing.

It's finally paying off.

Here is a picture of the first blooms of Frosty Pink. They are beautiful, and deliciously fragrant. And look at all the buds coming! I am over the moon! I also have plenty of buds on Insignis Gold, Sunray, Rosamond X Ecuador Pink and Charles Grimaldi. It should be quite the show in the garden for the next month.

Thank you all for your inspiration, and many of you for your kindess in sharing cuttings, advice, and encouragement.

Looking good! I have a RM X EP too, I started 6 seeds 2 years ago & everyone of them has been white, pretty flowers tho. I was hoping that the 2nd blooms this year would be different, so far they have not been.
Glad to hear Frosty has a nice fragrance, mine should be blooming tomorrow. It is so exciting to have blooms on something you have "babied". Enjoy! Bj

Thank you all for the very kind comments and accolades. I must go outside and look at it six times an hour! It was worth all the hassle these last ten months (spider mites, broad mites, mysterious yellow leaves, taking FOREVER to leaf out in the spring, looking ugly, cucumber beetles, etc. etc. etc.). The flowers are simply spectacular. And the fragrance, although a bit on the heavy side, is delightful and can be picked up from twenty feet away.

Thank you again. I look forward to sharing more pictures soon!
