Toenails and Berber Carpet-do they really tear it up?

Citra, FL(Zone 9a)

In a few weeks I'll be staying at my cousin's house that has white on white on white....and Berber carpets. She says Lady (my 14 year old schnauzer/fence jumper cross) will pull the fibers up when she walks across it with her toenails. I'm not uptown enough (:-) to know about Berber. Do I really need to get shoes for Lady? Or maybe those little toenail caps? Both items seem like a waste of money, unless it's really true that Berber is so fragile.

Thank you for your input/experience.

This is Lady in the Winter (long hair).
