Whiskers' first blooms

Jeffersonville, IN(Zone 6b)

Yeah!!! Whiskers' was only 16 inches tall when I got her on June 16. Now, she's 29". They grow up so fast! :)
The blooms are a pale yellow. Will they darken?
Anyway, here's a few pictures.

Very pretty ! I love the yellow flowering brugs.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Love your pictures. As I recall, mine never got very dark. Yellow is such a cheerful color. What is the yellow blooming plant below it? They look great together.

Jeffersonville, IN(Zone 6b)

Thanks Patricia and Kell!
Yellow is my daughter's favorite color, because she's a very bright, cheerful girl. So, she picked out Whiskers. The yellow blooming plant is my mandevilla that is going nuts and taking over. I'll have to take a shot of the potted plants I have in that corner of the patio because there's also a hibiscus and double purple datura -- that's where the color scheme goes wrong!! LOL

Indiana...I just got whiskers about the same time as you or maybe a little later..it has some tiny buds on it and Im praying it gets big enough to give me at least one bloom......lovely , lovely brug......Judy

Jeffersonville, IN(Zone 6b)

Thank you, Judy. Whiskers has been so easy to grow. At first, it was very slow taking off, but after I moved it to get more sun and started feeding it more, it took off. It held all its buds even during the horrible heat and humidity.

I truly hope you have blooms this year, Judy! They smell wonderful, too!

Jeffersonville, IN(Zone 6b)

Had to do a morning shot of Whiskers. She's so happy and yellow!!
I think tonight, I will get some pollen from my unknown pink that's beginning to bloom and cross it with Whiskers....

Oh Boy Felicia... You have some wonderful looking blooms in that Happy and Lush looking Garden of yours!!! You obviously have the Touch!!! Congrats

Angleton, TX(Zone 9a)

I love Whiskers' bloom and I also think it has beautiful leaves.

(Linda) Winfield, KS(Zone 6a)

Indiana_lily what is that plant to the far right of your picture in the corner of your patio?

Jeffersonville, IN(Zone 6b)

Um, the yellow or the orange? The yellow would be a Mandevilla, and the orange speck would be my Lemons & Oranges rose bush.

(Linda) Winfield, KS(Zone 6a)

To the right of the yellow looks like it has purple flowers

Oh, ok, the light purple is the butterfly bush that I really, really need to plant, and the dark purple would be my triple purple datura.

Nashville, TN(Zone 6b)

Beautiful flowers and photos!!!!
I love the color of your Whiskers. Something else to put on my wish list for next year.

Jeffersonville, IN(Zone 6b)

Thanks so much, Betty! I'm really happy with Whiskers. Unfortunately, I think Whiskers may be too small to do cuttings this year, but then again, it could have a real growth spurt!

Linda, now that I see that you meant the fourth picture, that is my triple purple datura.

Your plants look so good. Mine are so eaten up with bugs.

Brigham City, UT(Zone 5b)

Indiana,

I love your whiskers and all your potted flowers. They do look happy and non-bug infested. Congratulations! Is this your first year for brugs? It is for me and I am not doing so well.

I think I may have a 'whiskers yellow'. The leaves look exactly the same but it has not formed a Y yet. I must admit that I haven't fertalized it as much as it may need since I returned to work in July. All I seem to be able to do is keep up with the watering and pickings from my veg garden. My dats will come in the house for the winter and I hope to do better with fertalizing.

My unknown pink has Y'd and is putting out just a few buds. Hurrrrrah!

I have a double purple dat that has given me beautiful blooms. Many pictures have been taken of that one.

Betty, since I started getting all my plants in June, I don't think the bugs have found me yet. Next year, everything will probably be tattered and shredded!! LOL

Thank you so much, Marie

Awesome about your unknown pink! It's just so exciting to see your own blooms for the first time! You'll definitely have to post pictures when it blooms.

I would imagine a vegetable garden is a lot of work!! All I have are a few cherry tomatoes and I think we've grown a bit tired of tomatoes for the season. I was going to mow them down, but, we discovered tomato horn worms on them, and since they turn into sphix months, I can't get rid of the tomato plants. LOL!! Now, if I catch one on any of my brugs, that will be a completely different story!!

This is my first year with brugs. I started in June with Whiskers. Then, I wanted "instant gratification" and got my unknown pink. I've got an enchanted double white that drops its buds all the time, and it is driving me nuts. I'm about ready to strangle that one!! I've also got a Suavelons Yellow and a Double White, but they don't have "Y's" yet.

I love my triple purple dats, too! I'm hoping the seedpods mature before cold weather hits, though, because I won't be bringing those in for the winter. Since they grew about 4 feet in 2 1/2 months, I'll just plant seeds next spring. :) I just got some triple white and triple yellow in a seed swap, so I can't wait to see those next year.

(Linda) Winfield, KS(Zone 6a)

What zone is triple purple datura hardy to? I thought I read somewhere that datura was to a brug like a hardy hibiscus is to a tropical, that it comes back every year, without being dug up, and that they can be a little invasive. Is this true or am I all wet?

Edit to add it is a very pretty plant and so healthly looking, you are truly a good mom to all your plants.

Indiana,

How lucky are you? tripple white and tripple yellow. Can't wait to see them next year. You do treat your plants well.

This thread encouraged me to be 'nicer' to my plants and feed them what they need. I am a lazy person by nature, so I have to force myself into doing things, even some things that I enjoy. When I tell anyone that I am lazy I get a 'WHAT?' because I do many things - sometimes to many.

I just went out to see my pink brug, I have nine buds that I can count, one is 2+" and the others are smaller, some are just noticable. One bud has already dropped to the ground. This brug I thought had died and then it put up 7 branches so it is like a shrub, all the branches are beginning to Y, I am hoping to see a few more buds in the near future. Pictures will follow.

I have posted this picture of my purple dat, but I think it is just beautiful so here it is again.

2, I am in your zone, just a thousand miles away, hehe. I would like to over winter mine also, but I believe we are to cold even with mulching and protection. I may be wrong, I seem to recall reading that someone did over winter, I will look in the dat forum.

Marie very very pretty

Linda,

Thanks much! I know the daturas are not hardy in my zone (6b). But, they do self-seed, so that's good.

Marie,
That is a beautiful picture of your double purple. I think they are just gorgeous flowers! Mine are starting to drop buds -- maybe the sudden temperature change?

See, you're good to your plants, you brought your pink one back to life, and it has buds!! I hate that it dropped one, though. :(

Lazy, yep, that's me too, although I do work a full-time job, am a landlord, and am a single parent to a 9 year old daughter. When it comes to cleaning house, laundry, etc., I just don't have the heart to. :) I do keep it fairly clean, but the real cleaning happens in the winter when I can't mess with the plants.

I think the plants are my "escape." When things get to be too much for me, I just go outside and water or feed everything. That can take a while!!! I also mow the yard about once a week. It's a lot, but it's kinda relaxing too. Oh, and my daughter can name every plant we have, not to mention all the songbirds, butterflies, etc. Pretty cute.

I did receive more seeds of the triple white and yellow datura if you want a few. Don't have too many to part with, but I'd be more than happy to share what I can. Just d-mail me and let me know.

Ok, back to work!!
