Cheers!
I'm new here, and I've just seen TomTom's pictures for the first time.
I'm lost for words.
You are more than an inspiration, TomTom! Your sense of delicacy, taste and art are simply overwhelming!
I've been fond of every form of japanese art and culture forever, I find it infinitely touching and poetic, so subtle and yet strong - it gets to the very heart of me! And so have your delightful containers, TomTom!
So this is my tribute to you, and I'm dead sure every DGer is with me on this! :-)
Love and luck to you,
Hiraeth
TomTom
Yes, we are - he's a real artist!
I am not in the loop on Tom Tom ...can you hyperlink please. Or just direct me to the source. shirleyt
TomTom is a she, as I recall.
Correct, Darius
She once shared her web site ... I'll post it in a minute. Its in Japanese. Pass your cursor around the pages text ad pics .... there is alot of beauty there. When you get the little pop-up re the translator you can click 'cancel' and move on to the page ... or download the translator. Enjoy. I regularly visit her site for relaxing and inspiration.

Hi@MyHiraethA
So sorry I wasn't able to see your thread earlier since I was too busy .
My apologies.
I'm flabbergasted at your comment which overestimate me.
and yet I'm sooo happy to learn that there're people who share my liking--to find those who love things Japanese in particular.
Thank you very much, MyHiraeth.I'll try to keep posting .

Tomtom
Thanks for the link .....awesome pics and the flowers and color combinations are truly magnificent. shirleyt
I do not overestimate you one bit!! ;-)
Thank you for the inspiration!

Hiraeth
TomTom, after looking at your website, it looks like you have a lot of land. How big is a normal yard in Japan?
thanks,
angie
T-T,
What beautiful pictures of a truly lovely garden, I like your use of containers. And I agree with Angie; I thought most of Japan was urban, except for the terraced rice fields and the beer-fed cattle!
I have a specific question. You show a shallow terra cotta pot with something tall with red flowers. What is that plant with red flowers?
Thank you for sharing the beauty of your country with us, tom-tom.
xxxx, Carrie
I'm reaally happy I started this thread!!! ;-)
TomTom, any new containers?
Love
Hiraeth
Thank you so much,Hiraeth, for the encouraging words.

ecobioangie, :-)) pics 're so deceiving, you know.
Japan is a small, mountainous country and the inhabitable area are rather limited.
That's why ordinary people useally have only a handkerchief of a plot.
Yours truly is a typical ordinary person and my yard is about 3 ares.
Your can still do the gardening in a place such as it is.

Carrie,
Thank you for the comment. The plant with red flowers is Lobelia cardinalis.
Tomtom
Sorry, Tomtom, it's this one: Darn, I thought I copied it but now it won't paste! Well, I saw it again tonight, but then I couldn't find it when I went back to look for it. Your lovely site can be a bit distracting with its beauty. And my Japanese is non-existant ~I probably checked the same thread 5 times.
Anyway, this was a low shallow terra cotta pot. The plant with red daisy-type flowers was big and vase-shaped, and there was a low-growing chartreuse green foliage plant that balanced the pot. I don't know if my description helps much... :>( It doesn't matter. I was just struck (twice now) by your Japanese sensibilities of balance and proportion, which are so lovely, and yet so different from ours.
xxxxx,
Carrie
Wait, wait, let me try again!

I think that's the one.
Tomtom, do you date the Miracle-Gro guy? (That's a tasteless joke.)
xxxx, Carrie
I'm not sure if this is the same plant I originally saw; maybe this is the same plant three weeks later.
But at least I got to show the picture........

One can never have too many containers, TomTom! LOL ;-)
That one's so gorgeous!
I agree. One can never have too many containers. See this thread for verification!

Tomtom, do you know its latin name? Or I'll just try to look it up as "Alonsoa" and see if I have any luck. Do you grow all your plants from seeds?
xxxxx, Carrie
oooh yes, Carrie! I followed that thread for a long while, because it was among the first ones I saw when I found DG, and I just couldn't believe my eyes: those sooooo familiar words! LOL! And I thought I was the only one who had been SO outrageously accused!! ;-)
I loved that one too..!!Then there was'nt anymore post..
Yes, it seems our Kat turned out to be a tomcat, LOL! And off he went, OTR!
Thats right it was a man...I left alot of questions...wanted to know if all survived the winter in his unheated basement...
I think everything probably did, it wasn't the first time he overwintered everything there, right?
I wonder what he actually works in, maybe he's a photographer, or something.. kind of reminds me that character from the bridges of madison county, LOL
Gorgeous plants and gorgeous pateo!
