I just bought this tree and want to know how much shade it can grow in and how good does it do in deep shade? Does it still bloom? I live in southern california near the beach. I appreciate any information you can give me. How long does it take to get to 10 feet and is it really 12 feet wide?

It can get wider than 12', for sure. It might bloom but would be less-so in deep shade. It could probably grow in full sun or shade near the beach where you are. It should be a reasonably good grower where you are. The variegated cultivar is, IMO, more attractive. My Azara serrata infront of my house is doing well on the north side of the house under a large Cedar tree. They like that moderate temperature and neither wet or dry. Congrats on your purchase!

THanks for your response and what is the IMO variegated cultivar?

IMO = In my opinion
variegated = white edges to the leaves
cultivar = a variety of the plant.
Here`s an example of the variegated form of the plant you have: http://oregonstate.edu/dept/ldplants/azmicrov1.htm
