LOL Hibiscus is okra

Grantsboro, NC(Zone 8b)

Last year someone gave me seeds for a Hawaiian Sunset Hibiscus. Well I have 5 growing and gave my co-worker one. Japanese Beetles got mine at home before I knew they were around. What Dave brought in has Okra pods on it. Real okra.
Its in the same pot I gave it to him in and has the same leaf. I thought he was joking yesterday when he asked me if I gave him okra. Well guess what. It is okra. Some of the fuzzy pods he has let get about 4 inches long. And the wite bloom on it is for real.

Can't remember who sent it to me but if they read this they will fall out laughing.

Could it have been Abelmoschus manihot? It's related to Okra and I think has similar seed pods, but many people use the common name Hibiscus to refer to it. I've never heard it called Hawaiian Sunset, but I have heard it called Hibiscus.

I don't think they look that similar. LOL http://davesgarden.com/pf/go/43889/index.html and http://davesgarden.com/pf/go/1888/index.html

Did you say it has white blooms?

There are other okra that are grown as decorative plants
