Did I kill this?

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

It suddenly got yellowing leaves and the stalk is feeling all wrinkly and weird. I am hoping it is just going dormant though it is still nice here. Should I lift the bulb?

Well, don't worry, even if you did..... I will send you one... :)

NE, KS(Zone 5b)

It's just going dormant, Kell.

Oakland, CA(Zone 10b)

You know how it goes -- summer comes to an end, fall comes along, and we all start to look a little yellow and wrinkly and weird . . .

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Hi Eva!! Fancy meeting you here. lOL

So should I lift the bulb and storeit over winter inside? Or just move the whole pot soemwhere outside where it won't get rain all winter?
THANKS

NE, KS(Zone 5b)

You can just make sure it doesn't get moisture in 9b.

Powder Springs, GA(Zone 7b)

You can lift the bulb or let it be. Seems like it should be hardy in your area if you wanted to plant it outdoors, but then I don't know how N. CA. is. Tony Avent of PDN has some theories on why some tropicals thrive in the Southeast where we get below freezing quite a bit but the same plant doesn't do well in N. CA because the summers don't get hot enough long enough. ???

I planted all of mine last year in the ground but kept one in a pot for insurance. The ones in the ground took a long time to come up and they probably lost some size due to cold or drought but I think next year will be a lot better.

Hillsboro, OH(Zone 6a)

You killed it Kell. It's just plain no good now. You better send it to Ohio so I can study it for you.

giggle snicker HA HA!

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Thanks Aunt B, no moisture is tough though if I leave it outside here.

It is in the mail Chele, start holding your breath. LOL

Butch, where I am that is sure true. We are in the 70s all summer with no rain at all. Then in November our rainy season starts and we get lots of rain with temps in the 40s and 50s, some 30s at night. I would hate to have all that raih rot this bulb.

Hillsboro, OH(Zone 6a)

LOL Kell! I'll never get over the picture of one rootdoc had in the basement and by the time he took a pic, it was a huge monster blooming from a BIG shopvac box. LOL

Oakland, CA(Zone 10b)

Kell, on a more serious note, I'm a bit south of you and have always left mine outside year round. They're in pots and get the usual rain from October - April or whatever Mother Nature sends us, and rather than have a problem with rot, they just keep making more babies. If you're still uncertain, you could leave it outside underneath a porch or potting table to keep most of the rain off. But I think you'll be OK, and so will your Konjac.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Thanks THGA! You live so close, I am sure mine too will then live. A good friend gave me this and I sure do not want to kill it. And it has a PINK stem so I need it. LOL

That reminds me Chele, I haven't seen Doc check in for so long. I hope he is OK!

Knoxville, TN

Kell, you must stop killing plants! How will I ever be able to send you a banana pup to adopt? LOL!
I have heard that the dormant bulbs are to be kept as dry as possible when dormant. The first year I got them, I left them in the garage all winter with no water. Then again, I left them in the ground last winter and all came back with no problem. I bet it will come back.....that is if you don't plant something over it becasue there is a empty spot in your garden!

Hillsboro, OH(Zone 6a)

That turkey just posted on the "who's got the biggest?" thread!!

Harrisville, MI(Zone 5b)

LOL,I resemble that remark!

Hillsboro, OH(Zone 6a)

OH MY OH MY OH MY Dick. That one is huge and because you were so neglectful, you have to send it to me. So the leaves are variegated? Now I need it. LOL. NO! They are supposed to die this time of year. Shoot, you do not have your GH up yet do you? Hardy little things aren't they!

So the Root is back! LOL I think he thinks he has the biggest one, Chele! LOL!

Oh Mel, now I have it in writing that you are giving me a AeAe pup. I am so going to hold you to it and if you try to just send me pics of it, I will come get it. LOL Do as I say, not as I do.

Hillsboro, OH(Zone 6a)

Maybe he can find Mr Stinky in a box and post a pic for us. LOL That thing was impressive!

Nice find Strever! I'd love to see a pic of the variegated one!

Dick, that is absolutely beautiful! Thanks for the site. That was was some truly awesome luck. One if forty chance of getting a nice variegation??? WOW!

Hiouchi, CA(Zone 8b)

Dick

Northern California, United States(Zone 9a)

Yes Kell, pictures!!

Hillsboro, OH(Zone 6a)

Yeah Kell! So where is the variegated Konjac????? (Thanks Dick. hehehe)

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

I should show it before I kill it dead.

I need advice on it. Right now I have it on my seedling table under lights inside. Should I put it outside in the cool weather to have it die down? Then leave it out there dry till spring?

And it had a second stalk on it. I do not know if it is a second bulb or not.

Ooooooooooooh Kell!! She's pretty! I can't tell you anything about care though.

NE, KS(Zone 5b)

Kell,
I think you should carefully wrap in news paper-w/ leaves pushed upward, place in long sturdy tube and mail (1st class is fine) to me! Oh, sorry, if it were mine, I'd just leave it and let it die back on it's own, take it out of the cup and see what's going on with the 2nd stalk... then if it HAS produced a cute little bulblet, send THAT to me! lol It (they) will store fine till spring and once they start producing a nub, plant in pot or ground. It is a gorgeous amorph! (thx for the link)

Hiouchi, CA(Zone 8b)

keep it under the lights
the longer it keeps the leaves the stronger & larger the bulb will become

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Should I feed it, Dick? How is yours doing?? Growing big?

Hiouchi, CA(Zone 8b)

here is what it looks like this morning :-)
& i'm feeding it 2 or 3 times a week

For all the money it costs, it sure better be loaded with white variegation. LOL
