CLOSED: Trading to build a hummingbird garden

Paris, TN(Zone 6b)

Hi everyone,

DH surprised me with a cedar potting bench this weekend...(on sale, but still!) and I really would like to plant a hummer garden for him this spring. He's been very hepful with all the lifting, and shoveling and clearing - you know, the icky stuff.

I'm new, so I don't have a lot of exotic stuff - but I do have a respectable list of herbs, veggies and flowers from trading (and buying - too much per DH).

So if you have seeds of any of the following, please D-mail me and I'll send my seed list to you. I don't need a lot of seeds, just a few plants to spread out in the area he's cleared for me. Alternatively, if you know a really cheap place I can order any of these seeds, please don't hesitate to send that info as well.

• Campsis radicans (Trumpet creeper)
• Monarda didyma (Bee balm)
• Lonicera sempervirens (Trumpet honeysuckle)
• Lobelia cardinalis (Cardinal flower)
• Impatiens capensis (Spotted jewelweed)
• Aquilegia canadensis (Red columbine)
• Lilium canadense (Canada lily)
• Spigelia marilandica (Indian pink)
• Aesculus pavia (Red buckeye)
• Rhododendron catawbiense (Rosebay rhododendron)
• Cuphea cyanea (Pink Cigar plant)
• Cuphea llavea (Batface cuphea)

Thanks for looking!

Sunny, trumpet creeper grows everywhere around here - I'm sure I could find some seeds for you if no one else has them handy. Let me know, Michelle

I also have the trumpet creeper in my yard, but the pods will take quite a while to ripen.
I have a few berries on my trumpet honeysuckle, the yellow one, is it John Clayton, I think. They also will need more time to ripen. The hummers love them. They go from bottom to top and back again on them. I also have a orange trumpet honeysuckle, but have not checked the vine for any berries.
Do you know they love obedient plant, very invasive, but I keep it for the hummers,
They even enjoy the morning glories early in the morning when they are still open.
I have a heavenly blue climbing my tree and they practically live in it.
They also like the humble balsamina impatience, I have some of those seeds, another one that self-seeds rather well.

Pauletta, how do you apply the jewelweed for posion ivy?

Flemingsburg, KY(Zone 6a)

I squish the leaves up till they are kind of wet and I rub the liquid on my poison ivy. It helps me better than anything that I have tried. It's not sticky or smelly at all. Pauletta

Hineni,
You may also want to look for Obedient Plant and any wave petunias but it seems that they like the blue ones better. I have the hummers come up to these plants, close enough where I can almost touch them

Thank you so much for the suggestions and info everyone. I'm sorry I'm a little delayed in responding - I'm working 12-14 hours a day lately and I'm just dog tired. But I'll get to you, I promise!

Thanks for all the help!

Thank you so much to everyone who responded! I'm going to close the thread because I'm afraid my little seed list won't support any more trades right now...LOL!

I think I've dmailed everyone - if I forgot, please remind me. I'm brain dead this week from work.

I appreciate all the tips....obedient plant...wonder if I can cross that seed with my kids? (grin)
